Consider a flat metal plate to be placed vertically underwater with its top 2m below the surface of the water. Determine a shape for the plate so that if the plate is divided into any number of horizontal strips of equal height, the hydrostatic force on each strip is the same.
A tank is 8 m long, 4 m wide, 2 m high, and contains kerosene with density 820 kg/m3 to a depth of 1.5 m. Find
(a) the hydrostatic pressure on the bottom of the tank,
(b) the hydrostatic force on the bottom,
(c) the hydrostatic force on one end of the tank.
An equilateral triangular plate with 6m side is submerged vertically in a tank of water so that its top is 2m to the water surface (as figure below). Calculate the hydrostatic force against one side of the plate. (Water mass density ρ = 1000 kg/m3, and g = 9.8 m/s2)
