Summary Introduction

Introduction :

The hormone that helps to regulate blood calcium levels is calcitonin. In response to high blood calcium levels, the thyroid gland specifically, its parafollicular cells releases calcitonin. Calcitonin inhibits osteoclast activity primarily. Furthermore, calcitonin stimulates the kidneys to increase calcium loss in the urine. As a result, blood calcium levels decrease.

Blurred answer
Students have asked these similar questions
Draw a negative feedback loop for blood calcium regulation. Falling calcium level signals release of parathyroid hormone from the parathyroid glands. Calcium is released from bones, increased uptake by digestive system. Rising calcium level signals release of calcitonin from the thyroid. Blood calcium is taken up into bone tissue.
How does Parathyroid Hormone elevate blood calcium levels? by increasing the amount of CA2+ removed from the blood by the kidneys by decreasing the amount of CA2+ absorbed from the gut into the blood by increasing the number and activity of osteoclasts by increasing the number and activity of osteoblasts
What is the function of Calcitriol? decreases calcium concentration in the blood decreases sodium concentration in the urine increases calcium concentration in the blood decreases sodium concentration in the blood
