The pressure of the gas in kilopascals (KPa) is to be calculated.

Concept introduction:

The Pressure of a gas can be measured with the help of a device known as a manometer.

There are basically two types of the manometer. First one is closed-end manometer and the second one is open-end manometer.

In closed-end manometer, the difference in column height (Δh) is equal to the gas pressure.

Pgas=Δh

In an open-end manometer, the gas pressure is being measured either by adding or subtracting Δh from the atmospheric pressure (Patm) of the gas.

Case I: When Pgas is less than Patm then the gas pressure is being calculated as follows:

Pgas=PatmΔh

Case II: When Pgas is more than Patm then the gas pressure is being calculated as follows:

Pgas=Patm+Δh

The conversion factor to convert pressure from cm into m is as follows:

1cm=102m

The conversion factor to convert pressure from m to mm is as follows:

103 m=1 mm

The conversion factor to convert pressure from mmHg to torrs is as follows:

1 mmHg=1 torr

The conversion factor to convert torrs to KPa is as follows:

760 torrs=101.325 KPa
