Chapter 44.2, Problem 2SB
Summary Introduction
To review:
The mechanism behind the compensation for a lower-than-normal level of oxygen in the blood by the body.
Introduction:
Red blood cells are flattened disc-like structures that can pass through the thinnest capillaries. Erythrocytes carry a red color pigment called hemoglobin that carries oxygen to different parts of the body. The mature red blood cells (RBCs) lose their nucleus and their membrane provides them essential properties such as stability and deformability, which is very important for a cell. Hemoglobin is derived from the words heme and globin. Globular is a protein, which is rooted in the heme group.
