The hepatic portal system consists of a group of veins that carry blood to the liver. The capillaries of the stomach, intestine, spleen, and pancreas carry the blood to the liver. The main function of the hepatic portal system is to change the deoxygenated blood into oxygenated blood before going to the heart.
