In case of naming an ionic compound, the name of metal is given first followed by the name of nonmetal with suffix “ide”.  The elements from group IB and IIB have fixed charges.  Apart from these, the other metals have variable charges.  If the ionic compound contains the metals which can possess variable charges, the charge present on the metal has to be entered in the name using Roman numberal after the name of metal.
