Introduction:

Isotopes are defined as one of two or more atoms of the chemical element with the same atomic number but different atomic mass.

Explanation: 

Isotopes have a different number of neutrons but they have the same number of protons and electrons. The atomic number is defined by the number of protons present in the atom. 

The atomic number is the same as the number of protons and the atomic mass is the addition of neutrons and protons. So, the atomic mass of isotopes varies with the number of neutrons. 

Conclusion: 

The isotopes of an element have the same number of protons and electrons but the thing is that there is a change in the number of neutrons.
