Interpretation:
The tensile strength of the polymers given in table 16.2 is to be plotted as a function of number of aromatic (benzene) rings present in their monomer.
Concept Introduction:
Polymers are the large molecules which are made up of many small repeating units bonded together in linear, branched or cross-linked manner.
They are of two types: natural and synthetic. Natural polymers are those which occur naturally, and synthetic polymers are those which are synthesized or man-made.
The resistance shown by a material which prevents it from breaking when tension is applied on it is known as its tensile strength. This strength is dependent on various properties of the material such as, temperature, chain length, side groups, and branching.
