Suppose that a new company has five employees: Zamora. Agraharam. Smith, Chou, and Macintyre. Each employee will assume one of six responsibilities: planning, publicity, sales, marketing, development, and industry relations. Each employee is capable of doing one or more of these jobs: Zamora could do planning, sales, marketing, or industry relations; Agraharam could do planning or development; Smith could do publicity, sales, or industry relations; Chou could do planning, sales, or industry relations; and Macintyre could do planning, publicity, sales, or industry relations.
a) Model the capabilities of these employees using a bipartite graph.
b) Find an assignment of responsibilities such that each employee is assigned one responsibility.
c) Is the matching of responsibilities you found in part (b) a complete matching? Is it a maximum matching?

- In her last semester at SPC, Polly Hedron needs to take Statistics, Composition 2, Ethics, and Physics. Because Polly is registering early, she has 10 choices for her section of Statistics, 16 choices for her section of Composition, 14 choices for her section of Ethics, and 13 choices for her section of Physics. From how many possible schedules can Polly choose?arrow_forwardThe cost of operating the Maintenance Department is to be allocated to four production departments based on the floor space each occupies. Department A occupies 1100 m²; Department B, 400 m²; Department C, 1200 m²; and Department D, 500 m². If the July cost was $38,400, how much of the cost of operating the Maintenance Department should be allocated to each production department? The operating cost for Department A is $ (Simplify your answer.)arrow_forwardA bakery has two ovens. Oven 1 can produce 3,000 loaf breads, 2,000 chocolate rolls, and 300 pita breads daily. Oven 2 can produce 2,000, 5,000, and 1,500 of the same products. The daily operating costs of Ovens 1 and 2 are $400 and $600, respectively. Find the number of days of operation of each oven so that the operation cost in filling an order of 18,000 loaf breads, 34,000 chocolate rolls, and 9,000 pita breads is minimized.Solve using: a) Graphical Method b) Simplex Methodarrow_forward
- A contractor, Susan Meyer, has to haul gravel to three building sites. She can purchase as much as 18 tons at a gravel pit in the north of the city and 14 tons at one in the south. She needs 10, 5, and 10 tons at sites 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The purchase price per ton at each gravel pit and the hauling cost per ton are given in the table below. Susan wishes to determine how much to haul from each pit to each site to minimize the total cost for purchasing and hauling gravel. Hauling Cost per Ton at Site Pit 1 3 Price per Ton North $30 $60 $50 $100 South $60 $30 $40 $120 Now suppose that trucks (and their drivers) need to be hired to do the hauling, where each truck can only be used to haul gravel from a single pit to a single site. Each truck can haul 5 tons, and the cost per truck is five times the hauling cost per ton given above. Only full trucks would be used to supply each site. a. Formulate this problem as an assignment problem by constructing the appropriate cost table,…arrow_forwardThe Collin Freight Company has an order for three products to be delivered to a destination. Product I requires 10 cubic feet, weighs 10 pounds, and has a value of $100. Product II requires 8 cubic feet, weighs 20 pounds, and has a value of $20. Product III requires 20 cubic feet, weighs 40 pounds, and has a value of $200. If the carrier can carry 6,000 cubic feet, 11,000 pounds, and is insured for $36,900, how many of each product can be carried? a. Identify the variables of the problem using x, y and z. b. Fill out the following table from the information given: total Volume (cu. ft.) Weight (lb.) Value ($) c. Write the augmented matrix for the system of equations. d. Solve the system of equations using Gauss-Jordan Elimination. e. When Line One operates it assembles 30 units of the OLED model and 50 units of the LED model per hour. Line Two assembles 40 units of the OLED model and 40 units of the LED model per hour. Let x be the number of hours that Line One operates and y the number of hours Line Two operates. Phony needs to produce at least 3000 units of the OLED model and 4000 units of the LED model to fill an order. (a) Write down the inequalities that describe the assembly constraints. (b) Graph the feasible region determined by these constraints.arrow_forward
- A manufacturer of downhill and cross-country skis reports that manufacturing time is 1 hours and 4 hours, respectively, per ski and that finishing time is 3 hours for each downhill and 4 hours for each cross-crountry ski. There are only 16 hours per week available for the manufacturing process and 24 hours for the finishing process. The average profit is $62 for downhill ski and $92 for cross-country ski. The manufacturer wants to know how many of each type of ski should be made to maximize the weekly profit. Corner points of the feasible region: If there is more than one corner point, type the points separated by a comma (i.e. (1,2).(3,4)). Maximum profit is: $ when and downhill skis cross country skis are produced.arrow_forwardConsider the town of Acaford with a population of 5,000 people.
