Maria is an MBA graduate from a Malaysian higher learning institution, with 5 years’ experience in Operation Management. One day, while browsing jobstreet.com/ to her excitement, she received a job offer from a large and prestigious clothing company in
Shah Alam with open hands, Maria accepted the offer. She is all set to face the new challenges at the new workplace as Assistant Manager.
Maria’s first assignment is to assist Madam Barbie, in handling the foreign workers that work in the factory. Maria was extremely happy on the first month of her employment. Madam Barbie respected her as an assistant. On several occasions she received praise for good discipline. Her views and opinions have been well considered and workload is just right. However, an event occurred that threatened to destroy all her contentment. She found out that the foreign workers have been treated badly by their supervisor in which they are not allowed to take medical leave and they need to work overtime for everyday without any rest day.
Maria were shocked with what is happening and reported it to Madam Barbie, but Madam Barbie brushed her off and assured, "Look, there is nothing wrong with the supervisor’s actions. The foreign workers are in need of money; they should be happy that every single

day working means more money to them. Only few employees will tired and sick but since most of our workers are young, they would surely want to work hard and earn more.’’ Madam Barbie told her that this is normal in every single manufacturing plant in the world and ask her not to be concerned about it. “Our duty is to make sure factory can be highly productive, and the supervisor did a very good job!” She added.
