I agree and support the intervention of the task force on the community preventive services through the entire communal campaigns .The campaigns would strategies on the effective measures to motivate and increase physical activity among the adults and children to enhance individual health within the society. The decision to involve the task force in the campaign of the physical activity is positive since regular physical activity is attributed to enhance human health and reduced risk of all-cause mortality. Regular physical activity improves aerobic capacity, muscular strength, body agility and coordination, lipid profiles, insulin level metabolic and immune function. Individuals who are physically fit have a reduced risk of developing cardiovascular …show more content…
Informational approaches concentration on increasing physical activity by providing information that will motivate and enable people to change behavior and to maintain that change over time. The focus is fundamentally on the cognitive skills that are thought to precede behavior. The interventions primarily use educational approaches to present both general information, including information about cardiovascular disease prevention and risk reduction, and specific information about physical activity and exercise. Physical activity regimens were originally established to complement a medical model of disease management by involving communities in understanding the cognitive antecedents of behavior. Information is focused on changing knowledge about the benefits of physical activity, increasing awareness of opportunities for increasing physical activity, explain styles for overcoming barriers and negative notions about physical activity and increase physical activity behaviors among the community members(Kemper,Hernandez & Grossman, …show more content…
Behavioral and social approaches were combined because these interventions often involve group behavioral counseling and also may involve the friends or family members including individual’s social environment. Skills focus on recognizing types and opportunities for physical activity, techniques to solve high-risk situations, and ways to maintain desired human aspects and prevent deterioration. These interventions also involve making changes in the home, family, school and work
Although the task force does effectively address the problem of substance abuse and addictive disorders, it does not effectively address co-occurring disorders. Early on in the text, a co-occurring disorder is defined as an individual who has a substance abuse disorder and a mental disorder at the same time. The task force mainly focuses on substance abuse. There are elements that are present in the treatment such as release prevention, engagement, and persuasion. The task force provides a number of interventions strategies address problems with substance use.
Implementing these lifestyle habits will result in healthier people and lowered rates of chronic illness. One avenue to best prevent the development of chronic disease is to have health and wellness programs in the community, workplace, and schools (NCSL, 2012). If the population was properly educated on how to realistically live healthy lifestyles, then it would be easier to change and adopt healthier habits. This is especially true for adolescents in the school system. If nutrition and health classes were mandatory components of education across the nation, children would be able to learn healthy habits early on in life and more easily maintain those habits as they grow older. Results of these programs would be vastly beneficial due to a reduction in chronic disease prevalence. In addition to promoting healthy lifestyles and chronic disease prevention, discovering and implementing newly effective treatments are paramount to reduce chronic disease. With more advanced technology and medications, early detection and management of chronic diseases are improved and risks for CCM are reduced (Chatterjee et al., 2014). These improvements will not only
This behavior change project has become a huge part of my everyday life. I lost sight of how important staying in shape affects my overall mental state along with my physical well-being. Having a life that consists of so many activities such as going to school, working, and maintaining a full and happy relationship with the people I care about is hard to balance with just making time for myself. That is why keeping this three day a week workout regime over the past five weeks has been so important; it made me realize that I can make time to focus on just working on myself, and in turn, improve all other aspects of my life. Realizing of course that there are many people in this world that have real life health problems that they seek professional help for. These changes in their lives require a system or a theory that must be applied to develop a strategic an organized way to regulate or change their behavior.
Reducing the problem of obesity; there must be an organized educational, political and legislation movement that is supported at the community level. Information from evidence-based practices used by nurses, health care providers, and other collaborators like dieticians, physical therapists, and social workers help the client to achieve a more favorable outcome. These interventions focus on diet, exercise, and behavior modification should be encouraged by nurses. Giving the client the power to identify the factors that contribute to excess food intake, can help the client to eliminate or reduce causes. Establishing realistic weight loss goals and exercise / activity objectives like losing bodyweight 1-2 lb./week increase the likelihood of success, assessing the client’s knowledge and discuss well-balanced diet plans plays major role teaching about diet plans. Discussing behavior modification strategies, such as self-monitoring and environmental management can provide client is the reinforcement that is needed. (Pearson, 2015) Continuing assessment is necessary not only to evaluate the safety or weight loss strategies but also reinforce positive benefits of weight loss. Including families and other stakeholders, such as schools, parks, private partners and politicians at all levels, we can make the obesity issue a focus for change. (John, F., & Kirsten, P., 2014). For programs like this to be successful, outcomes should not
The focus of the local task force was primarily the physically handicapped incurring the handicap or disability at the age of twenty-six or later. However, the task force should not overlook the cognitive, intellectual, mental, sensory, and developmentally disabled. For example, nurses with experience in psychiatric, geriatrics, intellectual, and developmental disability can ensure this population is not neglected (Joel, 2006).
The world economy has become smaller in recent decades due to technological advances and the sharing of information. The divide between countries’ economies has shrunk due these advances making the world seem like a smaller place. A small business in rural North Carolina can now do business with anyone all over the world. The United States economy is reaching all over the world in order to take advantage of the information age and a world where deals are made in real time. The idea of less open and more secure borders would have a major impact on the United States economy. The amount of cargo that enters the United States is staggering, and to have more secured borders would entail a deeper inspection of all inbound cargo, which is impossible.
This literature review is being conducted to evaluate an intervention, which has been taken for its successes and failures. Having a key understanding of the positives and negatives in this intervention will be beneficial when planning for our own group project. In this specific article, “Get Fit With the Grizzlies: A Community-School-Home Initiative to Fight Childhood Obesity,” written by Carol C. Irwin, Richard L. Irwin, Maureen E. Miller, Grant W. Somes, and Phyllis A. Richey, put into action a get fit program to motivate children to obtain knowledge of living a healthy life through physical activity and diet. Analyzing the strengths and weakness throughout this article would be helpful in creating a successful outcome
What laws does the President’s Task Force seek to enforce and what are its likely litigation targets?
Physical activity is a very important aspect of an individual’s life. There are many health benefits to being physically active. Living an active life helps to prevent and lower the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, depression, and heart disease (Tuso, 2015). Healthy People 2020 (2018) states that about 80% of adults and adolescents do not meet the physical activity guidelines. Staying active may be difficult if there are no community resources to help. The intention of this paper is to implement interventions within Paulding County that will help increase physical activity among community members.
The publics idea of health has evolved over the decades, similar to fashion in that it is continuously morphing and even trends have resurrected with new twists. Recent developments have seen widespread awareness of the importance of regular exercise and many benefits of a balanced diet. Yet despite the plethora of health and fitness methods and resources, the general population has never been so physically sedentary and out of shape. According to the national center for health statistics, America life expectancy has declined despite advances in the fitness industry, concerns over secondary conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes has created an urgency of public health officials as they try to mandate new strategies to fight this national epidemic.
This study included 143 individuals of low socioeconomic status and 67 of high SES (Hardcastle et al., 2012). The study participants chose how often they would like to participate in motivational interviewing sessions (Hardcastle et al., 2012). Results demonstrated that those who were involved with more motivational interviewing sessions demonstrated higher levels of physical activity than those with low participation (Hardcastle et al., 2012). Those of low SES demonstrated a higher state of change than those of high SES (Hardcastle et al., 2012). Authors Hardcastle et al. (2012) concluded that motivational interviewing is an effective intervention to promote physical activity in those of low SES.
Participants had to complete informed consent, be over eighteen years old, free of serious medical conditions or disabilities that would make changes to physical activity or diet difficult, and attend church more than one time a month. Churches participating in the program were trained to implement intervention activities that focused on physical activity and healthy eating. The program was to target availability, physical structures,
Physical inactivity is a leading cause to morbidity and mortality, physical inactivity can cause obesity, and as I mentioned above the obesity causes many diseases, to limit physical inactivity that needs well-designed community with parks, bike path, sidewalks, street lightening, physical education classes, and physical activities in the school, all of these encourage children and adult to do physical
The strategy of a health communicator is to communicate information which will others to remember, understand, and accept behaviorally changes leading to healthier behaviors (Slater, 1996). Three challenges to a health communicator in defining a target audience for a campaign are as follows:
For instance, areas with safety concerns can discourage physical activity while areas with good pedestal connection can encourage more walking and bicycling for transportation. In terms of choice of food, poor and minority communities may not have equal access to the variety of healthy food choices available when compared to wealthy communities. (K. Morland, S. Wing, A. Diez-Roux, C. Poole, 2002) The built environment consist of urban design factors, land use, and available public transportation for a region, as well as the available activity options for people within that space (S.L. Handy, M.G. Boarnet, R. Ewing, R.E. Killingsworth, 2002). Promoting physical activity is of public health importance because of its health benefits. According to Bize, Johnson, Plotnikoff (2007), physical inactivity is associated with increased risks of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic diseases. However, interest to participate in
