Physicians generally do not like to work with patients with these disorders and do not find treating them rewarding. There is substantial evidence that physicians fail even to identify a large percentage of patients with these disorders (Miller, Sheppard, Colenda, & Magen, 2001). Financial barriers include inability to access treatment services by addicted individuals as indicated in various studies. There is also a competition for resources that has to be considered. Local governments allocate some part of their funding for specific issues and there is a competition among several stakeholders to ensure that their cause is represented. Substance abuse has been a known topic which has not been recognized and fully treated the way it should. Unlike general medicine, substance abuse treatments have their own facility and services apart from general settings, making it harder to get the recognition and the assistance needed to help the individuals in need. Both the Affordable Care Act and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA), which is a part of the US Department of Health and Human Services have promoted and established ways to enhance the quality of the treatment and the amount of treatment given.

Before the children come to school, I will give myself thirty minutes for planning. During my planning time, I will review my day’s plans and ensure I have all necessary materials are available to the children. When the children arrival to school, I will greet them and assist them if need with storing their belonging. Breakfast will be prepared for the children with serving bowls to sever themselves. When the children are finish eating breakfast, the quite centers, such as math and manipulatives and literacy centers, will be available for the children to enter. Just this past month there was a 60 Minutes special called “Heroin in the Heartland” on the skyrocketing amounts of heroin overdoses in the area. In the past year almost half of the 2,482 drug-related deaths in Ohio have resulted from heroin overdoses (Ohio Department of Health). Heroin is the new prescription painkillers of Ohio as it’s mass quantities and cheap price have beat out the other hard-hitting drugs. Attorney General of Ohio Mike DeWine says heroin can be found in any county of Ohio currently. The northern counties of the state are where the most overdoses, dealings, and devastations of this drug are occurring. “Today heroin overdoses take the lives of at least 23 people in Ohio every week. We were told many other heroin deaths go unreported,” (Bill Whitaker, Heroin in the Heartland clip). The statistics are staggering. Ohio has taken notice and has formulated the Heroin and Opioid Epidemic Northeast Ohio Community Action Plan.

When a counselor has a new client they are working with, the client has to be assessed. When being assessed the counselor has to determine what issues the client may have. Through being assessed, the counselor may come to realize the client has more than one issue which is called co-occurring disorders. To me, it seems that all the anti-gang initiatives are relatively successful. Because of all the gangs, nationally and globally, having a lot of Task Forces like the Safe Streets Task Force, Transnational Task Force, Violent Gang Safe Streets Task Force, and many others, seem like necessities. This just shows the extent of our gang problem.
