John Green once said, “Great books help you understand, and they help you feel understood.” Well written novels not only help a person to understand something and feel understood, they inspire a person in a specific way. Books like The Five People you meet in Heaven, Tuesday’s with Morrie, The Time Keeper, How to Win Friends and Influence People, and Heaven is for Real did exactly that for me. Each of these novels impacted and inspired me in a certain way as well as taught me an unforgettable lesson. The Five People You Meet in Heaven highlights one person’s experience after dying, and the most important events in this person’s life. After reading this book, it compelled me reconsider the relationships I have formed as well as how I treat people. It also helped me to better appreciate all of the things people have done for me. It also highlights simple pleasures in life that are often taken for granted like visiting a loved one or taking a walk. One thing Morrie said was, “If you don’t have the support and love and concern you get from a family, you don’t have much at all”. I often take for granted the love and support my family shows me every day in everything I do.
