The Renaissance was an important event in human history that caused us to realise how important being individual is. When the black plague occurred, it made people think that there may not be a god because of how tragic it was. Many important people such as Leonardo Da Vinci began making art and literature that were less religious and more in this world. Also the city states had changes that were necessary for the Renaissance. Without the changes Europe experienced we would still be under the rule of the church and be forced into a certain religion instead of being free thinking individuals.

The Renaissance was a time of rebirth. People questioned everything, turning towards secular ideas, and reviving ancient Greek and Roman ideas. During the Renaissance many things changed including mans view of man and the rest of the world. In this time people improved on areas such as art, science, and literature. The Renaissance became a bridge that connected the Middle Ages to the New World.

Early modern Europe was an interesting and important time for all of Europe. From 1300 to 1800, many events were set into motion that would forever change Europe, and to extent, the rest of the world. No other event in European history is as recognizable or synonymous with early modern European history than the event simply known as “The Renaissance.”

Between the 1300s and 1500s, Europe experienced a period of cultural rebirth known as the Renaissance, marking the transition from medieval times to modern times. The Renaissance brought new importance to individual expression, self-consciousness and worldly experience.

During the Renaissance, ideas and beliefs were dramatically changed. Life went from circling around religion to the philosophical concept of humanism becoming the center of society. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings rather than supernatural and divine matters. The ignorant beliefs of the Middle Ages began fading away and the Church began declining in power because they were losing followers due to humanism becoming more prevalent. People began thinking for themselves and believing in their own ideas rather than blindly listening to the Church because they were told to.

The European Renaissance was a new time and age, where many new inventions were made and many famous people were born. Although the Renaissance was a good time for most, a good majority of people still didn't feel the effects that the more wealthy people did. The Renaissance began during the 14th century, in Italy, due to the high economic and political status that sparked major changes in which the Renaissance is composed of. The Renaissance began at about the 14th century when Italian city states began to flourish and create independent governments that ran the city state. Italy was a very ideal location for trade which lead to a boost in the economy. In times of prosperity, wealthy merchants desired for artistic talent which brought about an era of the revival of the classics of art. Renaissance era covers the 300 years from 1400 to 1699 and is characterized by a revival of Classical scholarship, wisdom and values. European culture was reborn in the 15th century after a long dormant period in the Middle Ages that extended from the fall of the Roman Empire until the beginning of the 14th century. In addition to the revival of Classical scholarship, the Renaissance period also experienced cultural, scientific and technological advancements such as the discovery and exploration of new continents, the adoption of Copernicus’s and Galileo’s views of the earth and solar system, the decline of the feudal system, the growth of commerce, and the invention of paper, printing press, the mariner’s compass, and gunpowder.

The Renaissance played an important role in shaping European life by causing change in the cities, guilds, and life of the upper class. Throughout the Renaissance there was a recovery of culture, specifically of Rome and Greek culture. It was these recovered ideas that were ultimately incorporated into buildings, art and government of Europe.

During the 14th Century a new period in time was born. It was called the Renaissance. This was a time of rediscovery when an explosion of new ideas would overturn the medieval world and would continue to spread throughout Europe. During the renaissance a group of people known as humanists created and spread new ideas. Humanism changed how people think and it started the renaissance. Humanism was an idea whose focus was on humans. The focus was on the value and word of each individual and it was based on the ideas of ancient Greek and Rome. It is the renaissance that brought back to life the European culture. The renaissance was a period when Europe experienced a deep cultural awakening that was very different from the Dark Ages.

The European Renaissance was a time for rebirth for Europe, it was time of classical development, a time where existing ideas were being challenged and tested by the creative and intelligent minds during time period. The Renaissance helped Europe receive a lot of power and advancement over every other continent and territory outside of the European countries at this time. How you might ask? Well it was because of the great thinkers that helped improve Europe with their new inventions, scientific discoveries, beautiful artwork, and much more. These brilliant people were bringing a new culture to a Europe that was previously suffering from depression. Cities were in bloom, rich merchants and bankers wanted to glorify their names ordering portraits, building magnificent palaces, decorating family chapels. Medieval Europe had been fragmented and feudal with an agricultural economy, and the church controlled its thought and culture. During the Renaissance, Europe grew national consciousness and political centralization. An urban economy based on organized commerce and capitalism and a secular view on life emerged. The Renaissance showed the birth of humanism, which revives the use of classical writings for learning. Materialism also emerged during this time, people started to focus more on themselves. And individualism and skepticism also came about. Banking was a great supporter of the Renaissance, Italian bankers were bankers of the pope and all trade was going through them. Cities rise in importance and farms get closed off and are owned privately which moves toward a market economy. The Renaissance was not an economic boom because the advancements were happening in different places, at different times and at different rates. Literature was very important during this time. Literature was starting to be written in the vernacular and the German printing press was developed. More and more people became patrons of the arts and art became more for the people than for religion. Science was slowly changing and being slightly more accepted even though it was still morally wrong to most to believe that earth was not at the center of the world

Due to the work of Byzantine and Islamic scholars, ancient Greek science and scholarship found their way into the West. Europeans had been separated from their classical cultural heritage for almost eight centuries. No other world civilization had experienced such a disjunction from its cultural past. There were many events in history prior to this that led to the unfolding of this classic revival. Between 1300 and 1500, education had become far more accessible, their was the birth of humanism, and the invention of the printing press. Many prominent men influenced this time: Dante, Chaucer, Erasmus, Calvin, and Leonardo. The later Middle Ages were thus a period of growth and creativity leading into the renaissance.

During the 14th century, Europe experienced famine, disease, death and major changes within the church and papacy. Kingdoms consolidated and the influence the Pope held over politics waned. Amid these crises, the people galvanized and made major advancements in what would come to be known as the Renaissance period.
