To be completely honest, Hamlet would probably be diagnoised with some mental disorder. Medical diagnoises can infer that Hamlet might have been diagnoised with dipression in today's society. This can be understood with the death of his dad triggering his disorder. “Oh that this, too sullied flesh would melt,/ Thaw and resolve itself into a dew!/ Or that the Everlasting had not fix’d/ His canon ‘gainst self-slaughter!”(1.2.129-133). Throughout the beginning of the play, Hamlet is in a constant inner battle between taking his own life or obeying the rules of the church. He's religious upbringing forbids him to take his own life. People who are depressed and have lost the will to live often feel like they can say anything because they have nothing to lose. This can be seen by Hamlet fearlessly following his fathers ghost. The crazy thing is, Hamlet's sighting of the ghost could have just been an hallusination. A manic episode: is a mood state characterized by period of at least one week where an elevated, expansive or unusually irritable mood exists. A person experiencing a manic episode is usually engaged in significant goal-directed activity beyond their normal activities. People describe a manic mood as feeling very euphoric, “on top of the world,” and being able to do or accomplish anything. The feeling is like extreme optimism — but on steroids. This definition, as stated by PsychCentral, can explain many of Hamlet's behaviors. Hamlet is easily irritable and outlashes on his own other and Ophelia. He even finds himself saying harsh things like he never once loved Ophelia. He stabs Polonious without even thinking and realizing that he had killed an innocent man. “Take thy fortune./ Thou find’st to be too busy in some danger.—/Leave wringing of your hands” Hamlet justifying his own killing shows his mental insability. "A person experiencing a manic episode is usually engaged in significant goal-directed activity". The main goal of Hamlet throguhout the plan is the avenge his father's death.
