Standardized tests are taken across the nation. I think student don't take too many standardized tests because of standardized test help with many things. They help show what teachers need to t4each students, the test shows student's progress and how they are growing, and the Federal government is working on making standardized testing run easily without having too many errors.

The United States has been plague with racism. While a percentage of Americans choose to deny the existence of it, the problem thrives. In the Brown vs. Board of Education of 1954, the separation of race in public school where outlawed. The southern states had a difficult time adapting to the change, thus causing riots and violence. After years of trying to overcome a dark past, we are still faced with the same problem 60 years later.

America as we know it is filled with racism. Most of the time these incidents only happen because of their skin color. An example of this would be the Emmett Till murder case in Mississippi. The way Emmett was murdered caused barbarism in all races across the globe. Emmett’s legacy changed the view of people when they think about racial issues.

By World War I, standardized testing was a common practice in the United States. It started with the Chinese, filling out tests to determine job status among the workers. During the industrial revolution, children left the farms and land to sit behind a desk, which caused the need to test a large amount of children quickly. The most common and well-known in our society are the SAT and ACT, which became a common rite of passage into universities in our society. There are many different views on standardized testing, creating a rift in our society, whether it has positive or negative impacts on our educational community and futures of children in our country.

Although it is nothing like the riots in Chicago years ago, racism is still common. Racism can be discreet, but hurtful. In the past few years, there have been many violent situations that have been considered racism. The shooting of Michael Brown, which caused riots very similar to the ones in Chicago. These riots that occurred in Missouri were scarily similar to the riots in the early 1900s. The destruction not only caused physical pain, but emotional pain as well. These actions made African Americans look like they did many years ago, and that is not the reality of the situation. This particular shooting was not the first, and probably not the last, that was driven by racism, or is said to be. Racism and segregation happen everyday. Is it ignored or simply overlooked because the foundation of our country is built upon this. As much as America has grown in racism, such as having an African American man as our president for many years now, there is still a lot of growing to be done. One example of the racial problems that are happing in current times is the amount of racial profiling that is going around in the United States. Racial profiling involves the action of law enforcement officials base on race, ethnicity, or national origins; rather than individual behavior or specific information about the alleged criminal activity. The majority of the racial profiling incidents occur in traffic stops, neighborhood patrolling and airport screenings. Officials usually target African Americans, Hispanics, and here recently Muslims due to the 9/11 terrorist attack (Rodriguez, 2103). In other words, it’s when the police, government, or people with higher power single out a person because of their race, interrogate them and sometimes harm them. An incident that happened in 2011 regarding racial profiling was the shooting of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, who was simply out to buy snacks at a local convince store in Sanford, Florida. Martin was shot by a civilian neighborhood watch coordinator who shot him because he assumed he was a trouble maker due to the fact he was black (Rodriguez, 2013), which is also an example of a hate crime. Additionally, racial segregation in schools is another factor in the racial issues in America today. Charts show that the government funds primarily white majority schools with better education, than schools that have majority nonwhite students. As Gary Orfield states, “The first step to fixing the problem with segregation in the schooling system is to recognize and demand changes in the racial conditions outside the schools” (Orfield, 2008). All the democrats as well as republicans have different views regarding tragic incident, happened on 9th August, 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri a native of suburb of St. Louis.
