This project was one of our brainstorm ideas when we thought of the different activities we could have done with it. We got our idea because Andy and I threw ideas out there, and we narrowed it down to this one because we thought it would be a cool idea and an effective one too.We thought that this idea would be unique and help

Buts that's not true, more than 25% of the water in North America is unusual because it is too polluted to use in any way. Some reasons why this is so is because the acid rain that is created when factories emit sulphuric dioxide and/or nitrate oxides which combine with oxygen and water vapour create a more acidic compound which pollutes the oceans and destroys forests. This also contributes the ocean acidification and other environmental problems. The focus of this demonstration was to focus on how much damage acid rains do to our earth, also how it forms in nature and ways we can avoid this in the near future.
Acid rain affects thousands of people worldwide and is produced by factories and car fumes. It is the product of humanity and should not happen if we were careful of our carbon emissions. This phenomenon has contributed to many ruined water sources around the world. If acid rain was never a problem then places like Canada would have more forests and trees in Ontario. Also not as much coral would be dying in the ocean. Acid rain is a serious problem that needs to be addressed with caution and must be effectively dealt with before it is too
Materials: Observation 1; 1 cup of water, 2 cups of sugar, 1 glass jar, 1 wooden skewer, 1 plate and 2 clothespins. Observation 2; 1 cup of water, 3 cups of sugar, 1 glass jar, 1 wooden skewer, 1 plate, 5 drops of red food coloring, and one plate.
In the world today we have many things that are harmful and dangerous to us. Ordinarily, when we think of someone causing you harm, it is not so close to home. Your mother and father are the furthest from your mind of people who would do something to harm you. In many cases, they are the people who can do the most harm. In this review I would like to determine if children ages unborn of eighteen with daily exposure to tobacco smoke have a predisposition to asthma. I chose these ages because this is when the child is unquestionably helpless and vulnerable to the parents, when they are living with them. They have no other options than to be around the parent and cannot take care of themselves outside of the home.
In the United States one out of every four children between the ages of three and eleven, live with a smoker in their household. Imagine someone putting another person’s life in danger because of a decision they make. Think about the children who are not able to speak up for themselves when it is their own parents putting them in danger. When you place someone in a situation where they are unable to directly express how they feel, you may be creating a very perilous environment. Second hand smoke can be extremely dangerous. Second hand smoke is smoke that comes from any form of tobacco that is exhaled and later inhaled by another person nearby. Second hand smoke can put just about anyone’s life in danger.
Choosing what career you want to go into after high school is a very important decision in your life. You base it off of what your parents and family have done or what your favorite subjects are. It can all be very overwhelming. Exploring all your possibilities is the best thing to do. I chose the book Smokejumper because it is about the life of an airborne fire fighter named Jason Ramos, and I have always had an interest in becoming a firefighter. A firefighter can be a very tough job so reading this book has really helped me in deciding if I would ever want to choose this type of career path. In this book it talks about life threatening risks, the rewarding benefits, and a brief history of how airborne firefighters came to be.
Acid rain is any form of precipitation comprising of acidic components such as sulphuric acid, carbonic acid or nitric acid that falls from the atmosphere as rain, snow, fog, fail or dust. When sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the atmosphere, they are transported by wind and air currents. Hence, the two substances react with water, oxygen and other chemicals to for sulphuric, carbonic and nitric acids. The intense extraction of copper in Queensland is one of the causes of acid rain because the large machines that drill into the ground contributes to the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in large masses. The roasting, smelting and converting of copper is another factor that contributes to acid rain. The ores are roasted to remove
Testing of how ground water is affected by different contaminants was the bases of the experiment. The results were interesting in that when vinegar is filtered through dirt it came out fairly clean. This is surprising because I did not think that any of the contaminants used would affect the water the way it did with vinegar. I figured all the water would have dirt mixed in with the water that was filtered. This shows that maybe we can find a way to find a safer choice on how we filter and purify water.
Through the advancement of technology, the issue of the air surrounding the earth might have been one of the most often matters to be brought up and discussed among scientists and engineers. Acid rain is one of the more serious environmental problems and it is closely related to the air pollution. Nowadays, it has affected large part of US, Europe and Canada. People start to be concerned about acid rain since it is getting worse in the passed years. The effect of the acid rain most often leads to another bad effect. For example, the acid rain will cause the lake and streams to be acidic. Thus, it will also affect the ecosystem inside the water.
The most harm in secondhand smoke is done to kids in their developmental years. As you would expect, a kid's bronchial tubes are littler and their are still growing, making them more helpless to the hurtful chemicals of passive smoking. Since their tubes are littler, kids inhale faster than grown-ups and, they really take in a greater amount of the destructive chemicals in the smoke. Few people who smoke would keep on doing it even when they knew the potential damage that they were doing to their kids. Kids invest a great deal of energy at home and maternal smoking is one of the real downfalls of detached smoking. as a result, the child suffers.
Acid rain has not been shown to be harmful to human health, but some of the particles, which can be formed from sulfate, and nitrate ions can affect respiration. They can be transported long distances by winds and inhaled deep into people's lungs. Fine particles can also penetrate indoors. Many scientific studies have identified a relationship between elevated levels of fine particles and increased illness and premature death from heart and lung disorders, such as asthma and bronchitis.
The number one risk to unborn babies is smoking. Smoking during pregnancy reduces the amount of oxygen that the baby receives and increases the risk of miscarriage, bleeding, and morning sickness. Chemicals inhaled while smoking may lead to other health problems with the baby. Reduced birth weight, premature birth, increased risk of SIDS, and stillbirth are other possible consequences. Pregnant women should also avoid second hand smoke, as it carries much of the side effects as actual
Another form of industrial waste that contributes to water pollution is acid rain. Acid rain is a product of industries burning coal. The burning of coal produces sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide, and when these chemicals combine with the earth’s atmosphere it forms acid rain The Northeastern part of the United States has the worst acid rain levels in the world. More specific, the states with the highest concentration are Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and some boarding parts of Canada and New England area. The falling acid rain can destroy plants and animals in several different ways. The acidification of a lake, river, or stream because of the high acidic levels in the water kills algae. Since algae are the main source of food, for many species of fish, they will also suffer from the high acid levels.
Acid rains as a phenomenon has been identified during the 19th century in Europe, and was attributed the smokes rising from chimneys factories coinciding with the overtime increase of rain acidification especially in Scandinavia. There is a growing interest in acid rains and its destructive effects in the light of the development of global industry especially in the industrialized countries, which consume huge quantities of fuel and release increasing quantities of gases such as sulphur dioxide, hydrogen, and nitrogen oxides which produce sulfur and nitrogenouns acids upon the interactions with oxygen and water vapour. Acids produced remain in the form of fine mist until dissolved in rainfall once occurs and then precipitates as
For this experiment we used graduated cylinders for measuring ingredients, paper cups for holding everything and popsicle sticks for stirring. The ingredients we used were tap water, a Borax solution, glue, and food coloring.
Drew Lewis once said, “ Saying Sulfates do not cause acid rain is the same as saying that smoking does not cause lung cancer.” This quotation means that some people may have different views on different things such as sulfate not being a reason why acid rain is caused. This quotation relates to acid rain because is explains the main reason why it is caused, and the problem it is causing in todays society. Acid rain can be defined by dictionary.com, precipitation, as rain, snow, or sleet, containing relatively high concentrations of acid-forming chemicals, as the pollutants from coal smoke, chemical manufacturing, and smelting, that have been released into the atmosphere and combined with water vapor: harmful to the environment. Acid rain is
The PBS documentary, Poison Waters, is a documentary on the disastrous state of America’s major water bodies that continue to be polluted by state governments and companies. The video is a source used to educate the general public on the dangers of pollution and the disastrous effects pollution will have on the environment. The video exposes a multitude of people and institutions that purposely turn a blind eye to what is going on in the environment. The main reason the state of the environment is still subpar is due of the lack of interest of the people about what’s going on. Due to the lack of interest there are many preventable problems that exist that are contributing to the depletion of our safe and healthy environment.
