"Self-Concept"
Self-Concept is the perception we have of our skills, abilities and personality traits. The way we are to perceive ourselves and the way those around us perceive us, makes our persona, but these perceptions of ourselves continuously change throughout our lives. From a very early age we start growing an identity and traits that are periodically shaped by experiences. Although I have only lived for 20 years, I have learned a lot from past experiences, experiences involving those that surround me, good and bad.
The concept I have of myself that has been built by past experiences is an easy and relatable one, I personally consider myself to be a very strong, happy and outgoing person. From a early stage in my life, my self-esteem,

Usually, people are very judgmental with themselves, comparing themselves with others and making decisions about themselves based on the comparisons that they have made. People constantly estimate or appraise themselves. Therefore it could be that self-esteem refers to the positive or negative evaluation of ourselves.
Along with the experiences we live throughout our lives, one thing that also shapes us into the concept we have of ourselves is culture. Someone's culture can make a great impact in their being, in my case, I come from the Dominican Republic, a country where the air is warm and people are always smiling. To prove my point I took the time to interview someone who lived there their entire life, someone who is very absorbed by the culture and someone who knows me very well, my mother. To begin the interview I asked her what are some differences between the American and the Dominican culture, she said that "the Americans seem to be more uptight and stress more about materialistic things than in comparison to our culture, where we are carefree and seem to go more with the flow of things". Another question asked about both cultures was that in regards to the people of

Nonetheless, the relative importance of each of these items for individual self-esteem varies between cultures." Additionally, they explained that participants who lived in Western Europe and certain regions of South America, are said to value ones freedom and living a stimulating life, "they are more likely to derive their self-esteem from the impression of controlling their lives". On the other hand, for those that lived in cultures that value conformity, tradition and security, such as certain parts of the Middle East, Africa and Asia, are comparatively more likely to base their self-esteem on the feeling of doing their duty. Granted this discoveries, I can hold my ground on how different ways of living, affect one's

The difference between an individual's "self-concept" of themselves, versus their "self-image" is on a situational basis. The overall idea and image a person has of his or her self is the "self-concept." The "self-image" of a person varies from situation to situation. However, these individualistic portraits of the self contribute to the overall "self-concept" of a person.
Have you thought of someone’s culture as weird? Have you thought that you are completely different from them? If so, what prompts us to make that assumption. Culture is a very good reason for this. So, to what extent does one’s culture inform the way one views others and the world? Culture informs a person on the way others are and the world.
Although, many people like and dislike many of their physical appearances they have to cope with the fact that they can not change them and that their unique characteristics make them who they are. My favorite characteristic is my hair; I like my hair because it is long and curly. I can do a number of different styles with my hair such as straightening it, making it wavy or leaving it curly. I’ve never been bothered with my hair because my hair is unique and not many people have the type of curls that I do. Another one of my favorite characteristics is my eyes and eyelashes. I like my eyes because they have a nice shape; like an almond their not to big nor are they too small. My eyelashes are super long, I cut them in
Culture plays a paramount role in our lives. “It is what shapes who we are and how we view the world” (Thorp & Sanchez, 1998,
Self esteem is how an individual evaluates their worth as a person. It is not a person’s talents or abilities or how they are seen by others It is seen as the feeling of not being good enough. However, that does not mean people with high self esteem view themselves as
No individual can arrive at the threshold of his potentialities without a culture in which he participates. Conversely, no civilization has in it any element that the last analysis is not the contribution of an individual. Where else could any trait come from except from the behaviour of a man or a woman or a child? (253)
Carol Rogers. (2011). Self Concept. Available: http://www.simplypsychology.org/carl-rogers.html. Last accessed 06/11/2014 According to Rogers (1959), we want to sense, experience and behave in ways which are dependable with our self-image and which replicate what we would like to be like known as our ideal-self. The closer our self-image and ideal-self are to each other, the more steady or congruent we are the advanced our sense of self-worth is.

Although one’s culture is based on their experiences they have had, it is also based on values of family and education that help shape one’s opinion and view.
When one is questioned about their culture, a common answer involves a person’s upbringing and how they were raised. How an individual is brought up into the world determines how they live their life, how they make their life, and how they view their life. This is because culture plays a major role on one’s everyday life: history, relationships, social status Though one’s culture is a major key on how one lives their live, their personality may also play a role in their life as well as how they view the world. A person may make certain decisions in their life that are pulled from their own personality as an individual rather than their background; but, those views were taught and introduced by past experiences at one point or another.

A sense of self is a general conscious awareness of your own identity. I have come to understand the term as it is what defines me and makes me one of a kind. It could be a certain look, attitude or personality trait. It could also be the way I view a certain person, thing or subject. My sense of self could even be my purpose in life, perhaps? If it is, then I would say that my sense of self is something that has changed over time and will continue to develop as I get older and my life is influenced by events, places and people. Developing my sense of self is key to living a satisfying and healthy life.
