To ensure that my program evaluation is objective, credible and fair I would employ internal and external counselors or advisors as well as align my program evaluation with the standards and practices of the professional body of evaluators. These “advisors “may or may not include the program stakeholders, but would not negate the formal process of collaborating with key stakeholders. Rather, the purpose of my advisor team is to see and hear things I missed. These advisors are to me as the evaluator as the football coach is to the quarterback: the coach/ advisors supply information to the quarterback/evaluator who directs the game/evaluation. In addition, I would employ Fitzpatrick’s advice to consider a wide array of methods to collect information. Multiple methods can be used to increase validity, to enhance understanding, or to inform subsequent data collection. (Fitzpatrick, 2011). Moving from my informal evaluation methods acquired from examine my biases, to mitigate against bias in a more” formal “evaluation process the evaluator still first must examine themselves honestly and be clear on their position, their allegiances and their adversaries. It goes without saying that evaluation reports should not be unfair, unbalanced or inaccurate. Yet truth is elusive and even the most scrupulous evaluator must struggle to see that carefully collected and analyzed information is not later distorted, intentionally or unintentionally in presentation.
