For me having the power point narrated is a plus. With dyslexia comes the challenge of processing the written word alone, which is often difficult. The same challenge takes place when only listening to someone lecture without notes to follow. So having the two join together, just like peanut butter and chocolate makes sweet music to my ears, eyes and brain! Colleen, Thank you for being open, reading and listening to our suggestions. You Rock!! As students we get the chance to express our view points and share our comments about the course after the semester is over, which does not benefit us during the semester. I appreciate the opportunity for the class to share with you our ideas and comments during the class.
In conclusion I really have learned a lot in this class and really has helped me to manage my time better
Elizabeth, you kept your post short and sweet! I think you did a really great job of weeding out the unnecessary content, and getting to the point of the assignment. It seems that we liked similar things that the author presented the reader with. I think the "Ask three before me" is an excellent bit of advice. It was really neat to read that you have already put this into action in your current career. I think listening to the students is just as important as listening to your colleges. It was also cool to hear that your kids help you with ideas. I had to get my own little sister who is in Elementary to help me with my math course, because I just did not learn it the way it is being taught now. Great post!
In conclusion, I did great in this class because I was conscious about what goal of this class. I was ready for this class since the day I registered for it, and I decided to read and follow what it mentioned in the syllabus, and to listen to my teacher. It was my responsibility to be up to date on my works and assignments even though I had another class this semester. As Jean De La Fontaine said: “slow and steady wins the race
Thank you for (again) taking the time to go over my essay so thoroughly and for taking so much time this semester being actively involved with our class as a whole. I can only imagine what a time-suck we all are with our concerns/questions. Hope the rest of your summer is enjoyable!
First off, let me say that I was somewhat aware that there was some tension in the air; only because Robert Richie advised me yesterday that one of the students had made an inappropriate joke during class, and that you were dealing with it.
This class has been one of the most touching this semester, I have learnt a lot about aboriginal issues and how to engage the aboriginal community. I felt very safe, to express my concerns in class. The professor gave everyone the opportunity teach and be taught which makes the class as engaging, fun, and educational as a class should be. I have tried every week to make it to class on time, never missing a single class, handing in all assignments on time. I have contributed both inside and outside of class, with the assignments. Ensuring that all students within my group understand the reading to do their reflection properly, by providing support and answer questions if they have missed a class or don’t understand the assignment. I always
Welcome to our first class discussion board forum of the semester. Do you have any questions? Yes, please state in this forum. If not, please state in this discussion board forum. "No, I do not have any questions." Lastly, you must stay logged on and work on assignments, for at least fifteen
The other part that also appealed to me is through discussion post from Megan and Gabrielle that were in the same group with me. Every week I was looking forward to learning from the students mainly because the way each responded to question made it easy to learn and through both commenting on my post made me realize what I may have missed while I was reading or responding to the questions I had chosen to answer. I liked the way Gabrielle was always ready posting her answers on Monday night while at other times I had no idea what to answer on Monday until I go and read her post and from there I was able to get it too. One example is when I answered my post on week 12 Megan made a comment on my post that helped me there was another sense of feeling different to the one I had mentioned on my initial discussion post. Discussion board has really played a big role on this class to me, I was able to know how to use different wording so my response is not basic or short of words.
I’ve blogged many times on how NOT to use Power Point. Most people use it incorrectly, and it becomes a barrier between speaker and audience. For example, they create word slides, really speaker notes, with many bullets of text, expecting – what? – the audience to read along with them? Or, they go nuts with the animation, swoops, and flying headlines that make audiences dizzy to little purpose. Or they use cheap-looking clip art that creates a tacky image of speaker and organization in the mind of the audience.
This semester has flown by. I am grateful and pleased to have had you as my instructor. I have learned, and been reminded of, a lot of important information throughout this course. In my Letter of Submission, I will try my best to address all the points that you outlined for us. Before I address those points, though, I would like to say thank you for all the hard work that you put in on our behalf.
In my personal opinion, the back half of a semester is always the hardest part to get through; moral takes a dive and motivation is at an all-time low. It’s stressful, not only for the students but professors as well. Truth is that a lot of things went wrong that were out of our hands, that didn’t help matters any but there is no point in dwelling on what cannot be controlled. It was frustrating, however, we all managed to get through it in the end, everything turned out alright like it always does in these situations. Along the way I noticed some things that I would like to address.
Knowing how to create a PowerPoint presentation with slides that advance automatically and are voice narrated is a beneficial process to know as a student. Creating PowerPoint presentations is a process students will go through throughout the course of their schooling, and they may possibly use this process after schooling depending on their career. Using PowerPoint is helpful for both the presenter and the person viewing the presentation. Presentations provide a way for people who are visual learners, or people who prefer viewing images and viewing words, as well as audio learners, people who prefer hearing discussions, a more effective way to learn. According to Wendy Corbett, who is certified in designing learning, “When you use both words and pictures, you are actively engaging both working and long-term memory” (Corbett, 2015, p.66). This means that using learning or teaching tools that provide both discussion and a visual allows the viewers to actively use their memory, which will in turn aid in the viewer remembering what the presentation was about. As a presenter, using PowerPoint
As this semester is ending, I am reminiscing about how overwhelming this class was. However, I acknowledge that there are a lot of astonishing things I have learned from this course. As an Engineering student, I was craving to acquire more knowledge that would help me in the outside world. Some things went as I desired and others did not, but I recognize that I could have done a better job to make this lesson more significant.
There are no compelling results to prove or disprove that PowerPoint is more effective for learner retention than traditional presentation methods.[9] The effect on audiences of poor PowerPoint presentations has been described as PowerPoint hell.
When I began this class and the accompanying readings, the school year had not yet begun and I was hoping to discovers ways to engage my students and help them motivate themselves. I had had a negative experience with my seniors last year (2016-17). Many failed English or dropped out, and I had a handful of students who were disrespectful and generally rude, bringing down the classroom culture as a whole. I wanted to make sure that this year, students would have a valuable experience in their last English class of high school and that they would find fulfilment in the curriculum and the classroom community I was hoping to build. While the year is not over, the methods and lessons I learned and developed through taking this course have greatly impacted a positive learning environment. I do not know if it is what I did or if it is merely the nature of my students this year, but I am having a wonderful year with these individuals. They are kind, respectful, motivated (for the most part!) and just plain delightful to be with. Mission accomplished!
