Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint, usually just called PowerPoint, is a non-free commercial presentation program developed by Microsoft. It is part of the Microsoft Office suite, and runs on Microsoft Windows and Apple's Mac OS X operating system. The current versions are Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2010 for Windows and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2011 for Mac.
History
Originally designed for the Macintosh computers, the initial release was called "Presenter", developed by Dennis Austin[not in citation given] and Thomas Rudkin[not in citation given] of Forethought, Inc.[1] In 1987, it was renamed to "PowerPoint" due to problems with trademarks, the idea for the name coming from Robert Gaskins.[2] In August of the same year,

There are no compelling results to prove or disprove that PowerPoint is more effective for learner retention than traditional presentation methods.[9] The effect on audiences of poor PowerPoint presentations has been described as PowerPoint hell.
[edit]Criticism
Although PowerPoint has the aforementioned benefits, some argue that PowerPoint has negatively impacted society. The terms "Death by PowerPoint" and "PowerPoint Hell" refer to the poor use of the software. Many large companies and branches of the government use PowerPoint as a way to brief employees on important issues that they must make decisions about. Opponents of PowerPoint argue that reducing complex issues to bulleted points is detrimental to the decision making process; in other words, because the amount of information in a presentation must be condensed, viewing a PowerPoint presentation does not give one enough detailed information to make a truly informed decision.
A frequently cited example is Edward Tufte's analysis of PowerPoint slides prepared for briefing NASA officials concerning possible damage to the Space Shuttle Columbia during its final launch.[10] Tufte argues that the slides, prepared by the Boeing Corporation, had the effect of oversimplifying the situation, and provided false assurance that the ultimately fatal damage to the shuttle was only minimal. Tufte argued:

I will need to use Information Technology to produce this presentation because of the various programmes or softwares in the ICT subject; these programmes can be expressly useful in showing a good layout of what I want to produce in the which the Powerpoint application is the best option, particularly for this upcoming event called the BCS Women App-a-thon which I am working on. BCS is also called the Chartered Institute of Information Technology which means they specialise in this use of Information Technology.
After watching such a presentation writing notes and revisiting the key points of the presentation are study tools used to help this author acquire new information. Furthermore, participating in group discussions which provided question and answer times provided this other with another learning style that facilitated successful retention of information.
A variety of communication media can be considered when planning to produce a presentation, for example verbal communication and written communication, each type of communication media has its advantages and limitations. When developing my presentation I decided to use both verbal and written communication, although both communication methods were used I had to ensure that they were used in the correct quantities. To keep my presentation engaging I tried to use as much visual representation as possible limiting the amount of text per slide. I chose to use PowerPoint because of its combination of written and verbal communication (not to mention the cost effectiveness of choosing PowerPoint and simplistic interface); the written aspects included the text on the slides, screenshots and images. The screenshots proved particularly useful as they was of the actual database used in the daily running of the Apprenticeships Store, once paired with the demonstration of inputting data into the database it ensured greater understanding due to more practical learning as opposed to theoretical learning. More detail was provided in my handouts ensuring I didn’t give too much information at once and this allowed the audience to document any supplementary information I said during the presentation, by speaking and interpreting what was on the slides ensured the presentation remained fluid and
If we consider the resource of YouTube videos within PowerPoint, some advantages to its use are:-
Provide students with information on different presentation skills needed for their final presentation. How to conduct a Power Point presentation and a poster, including visuals and different sounds, the importance of speaking clearly and loudly, the importance of correct spelling and grammar and use of appropriate language relating to the topic is discussed.

A PowerPoint presentation is a form of a slide show that can be of much benefit to the aging population because this feature can help with memory and cognition. An elderly individual can fail to recognize simple daily tasks, which is brought on by age cognition disability. Presentations for the aging population are helpful, as some of the pictures illustrated can remind an elderly individual on how to complete a simple task such as sweeping, cooking, and so forth.
In his persuasive piece "The Cognitive Style of PowerPoint" Edward Tufte, although skillfully delivering his anti-PowerPoint point of view to an audience of presenters, is unable to provide a fully convincing argument against the famous presentation program.
Power point presentation design theme is simple and provides the consistent background, which followed standard rule of using contrasting colors for text and background (National Conference of State Legislatures, “n.d.”). The theme does not overthrow the context of the presentation. Standard rule of effective presentation has been followed in this presentation such as including the basic design them, slide numbers, and providing the consistent font color. However, the selected font color of the each slide’s title is red which can distract and mislead the reader. Red font color is utilized mostly in emphasizing information. Therefore, red text on every slide is distracting factor in this case. Through out the presentation, diagrams and related pictures have been included to add the interest to the context. For example, explanation of the
I do various presentations throughout the organization and within my department, so PowerPoint comes in handy. I use excel for planning purposes, to store data, uncover trends, etc.
The PowerPoint will already be projected onto the front screen with the title slide of the presentation showing.
I can guarantee that almost every student has been a part of this “traditional” educational system as they are just taught to memorize certain material until the test day comes. As an undergraduate student, I can say that I have witnessed my education become a test of remembering everything that was in a PowerPoint. I remember my
PowToon is a cool presentation program. It allows a person to bring their presentation to life through animation. With Powtoon, technical or design skill is not needed to create an engaging presentation. The program is easy to use and a presenter can have a presentation completed in less than a few seconds.
“It’s a visual world and people respond to visuals”, Joe Sacco. Visuals add power, interest and weight to a presentation. Visuals when added to a presentation not only help present the information you are communicating, but also add color and emotion (Locker & Kienzler, 2009). With the recent changes in technology, and how easy it is to create visuals now has resulted presenters using visuals without thought about the purpose the visual is fulfilling. Visuals should only be utilized when they meet a need or want of the audience (Locker & Kienzler, 2009). Visuals in a document or presentation should be utilized for three purposes: “to make points vivid, to emphasize material, and to present material more compactly and
In my IT 142 Presentation Technology & Techniques class, I learned various functions for the PowerPoint program. The skills that I learned were how to insert an audio, create custom backgrounds, and how to add/edit animations. These functions helped me accomplish my project since I had to add a custom background and add multiple animations.
