The role of a sergeant officer does not end with catching criminals and investigating various cases. A sergeant officer is also responsible for supervising the performance of his subordinates and evaluating them and these include disciplinary actions. Like other professionals, police officers are expected to behave properly and ethically inside and outside the workplace. Hence, it is important for them to act according to their code of ethics and maintain a good reputation.

However, the act could have been prevented if the sergeant officer took action immediately. As the officers' superior, it is the sergeant officer's responsibility to make sure that his subordinates remain true to their code of ethics. Having witnessed such unethical behavior, he should have talked to the officers and explained that what they were doing was wrong and unlawful. The sergeant officer has the right to discipline his subordinates and not tolerate their bad actions. Unfortunately, he was not able to fulfill his task of keeping his subordinates disciplined and protecting other workers especially women. Police officers should know how to behave properly in the workplace and if there is one person who should teach them about ethics and set a good example is their superior.
Concisely, the sergeant officer did not ensure good order based on his response to the actions of the two police officers. Ensuring good order and discipline is one of the major tasks of sergeant officers and as the sergeant; he had the right to do what he had to do to teach them a lesson. He may also feel like he is not being rewarded enough for being a productive officer and good leader. Furthermore, the sergeant should give him clear and behavioral feedback while listening to his problems and issues regarding his job and the company. Above all, what Officer Smith needs is a tough feedback from his superior to help him realize that he is not behaving according to their code ethics as police officers. Officer Smith may have certain reasons why he is behaving such way and they can be personal, too so it is important for the sergeant to remind him that personal issues or problems should never be mixed with work. The sergeant should also encourage Officer Smith to become productive again by mentioning all the great things he has done at work and most importantly, they should give Officer Smith a chance to change his bad attitude and behavior in the
