Some police officers work as plainclothes detective in crime investigation. A very important responsibility for state police officers sometime known as State troopers or highway patrol officers are to patrol the highways and enforce the law. Troopers ride in patrol cars equipped with two-way radios, they monitor the traffic. They write traffic tickets and issue warnings to drivers who are not following the traffic laws. They direct traffic around road repairs, accidents and other emergencies. When theres a highway accident officers take charge of the activities at the site by directing traffic. By giving first aid to any injured person and by calling an ambulance or fire truck or tow truck. They also write up a report to be used by investigating officers who attempt to know what the cause of the accident was. State police officers in most states do general police work. Most police officer are trained in the use of firearms and carry guns. Officers in special division such as analysis and handwriting and fingerprint identification have special training to show their work. Police officer may be tested to see whether they have used illegal drugs. Officers may not have criminal records, everyone who applies to be a police officer is investigated for any record or illegal activity. Must have good observation skills, whether the job is patrolling city streets or investigating crimes. Must be able to notice tiny details. Good judgment officer have to make a lot of decisions every day. One of the most important is deciding if and how to use their firearms. Interpersonal skills, officers come in contact with different people, suspects,crime victims, witnesses, they must be able to communicate clearly.
