The heated issue of police brutality and police officers violating civil rights has extensively covered media headlines for several years. Hundreds of people are killed every year by police officers, and many of these cases bring up issues of police brutality. More often than not, it is usually a white police officer and an african american offender encounter that sparks media attention. The shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri is just one of these cases that has caused a major divide in the United States. Michael Brown was fatally shot by Officer Wilson after an unfriendly encounter in the streets. Those who believe that Officer Wilson made the right decision in shooting Michael Brown, point to the fact that the grand jury chose not to indict him. Although Darren WIlson was not charged after the shooting of unarmed Michael Brown, some people believe that his actions were unlawful and he should have received some sort of punishment for his wrongdoing. Acknowledging all of the facts of the investigation, Officer Wilson did not act properly in the circumstances of the time. Many people believe that Officer Darren Wilson made the right decision when he fatally shot Michael Brown because he feared for his life. In a report by Rachel Clark and Christopher Lett, CNN reporters, they describe the incident that led to the shooting began when Wilson left the scene of a sick call and encountered Michael Brown with his friend Dorian Johnson walking in the middle of the
On August 9, 2014 Officer Darren Wilson with the Ferguson Missouri Police Department was on his way to a reported strong-arm robbery at a local convenience store in the city. While on his way, he observed two African-American males walking in the middle of the roadway (#1). Officer Wilson realized the pair matched the description given of the suspects from the robbery call in which he had been dispatched. The only problem, the media was producing the wrong conclusion for the audience watching which turned George Zimmerman into a hated man nationally. However, testimony and evidence has proved that Zimmerman was defending himself against an angry Martin. On March 22, 2012 a nationwide coverage of a Florida rally featuring Rev. Al Sharpton, was used to build racial tension in order to force Zimmerman to be arrested. When the phone call between the dispatcher and Zimmerman was released to the public, Zimmerman mentioned Martin being black which caused the nation to think it was a racial prejudice that caused the events to occur. Ultimately, this case proves that the media reports very biased and can control what viewers believe. Before the altercation Brown robbed a convenient store where he stole several packages of cigarillos and shoved the store clerk to the ground. Reading the legal summary of the killing of Michael Brown, there were many factors that went into Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson’s shooting, whether it was justified or not. According to the investigation conducted by the Justice Department, several witnesses stated that Michael Brown appeared to pose a physical threat to Darren Wilson as he moved toward Wilson. These witnesses stated that as Brown continued to move toward Wilson, Darren Wilson fired at Brown in what appeared to be in self-defense. Witnesses also stated that Wilson stopped firing once Brown fell to the ground. In Wilson’s statement, he said he feared Brown would assault him because of Brown’s conduct in the SUV.
I do know all this and I read about it when the DOJ report came out. It was stocking to me, but the outcome could have been different. I think Michael Brown should have been arrest for his crime. The problem I have is the fact the Darren Wilson had to use his gun first. What do you learn at the academy because it is so easy to use a gun. Do police officer carry tasers and I wish he would have use the taser.I do understand why, but it show why the black community do not trust or like the police. It does not matter that Darren Wilson was right. The black community only see the white officer shooting a black person. This is a big problem in the black community. The black community is not upset if there were a arrest. They are upset because the

There are many things that led up to the shooting.
In Ferguson, August 9 a unarmed male named Michael Brown was shot down by a white officer named Darren Wilson. Brown held his hands up replying to the officer saying “do not shoot” ! The officer opened fire on him. Most people say it was because of his color.
Isn’t our police force supposed to serve and protect us? To me it seems as though a lot of them have been taking advantage of their power and taking advantage of American citizens. For whatever reason our police seem to be doing things backwards from every other police system in the world. For example our cops do not stand out to the public where as in Europe and Asia’s police are bright yellow with checkered patterns, in order to allow the public to easily notice them and have the ability to call out to them for help when they’re needed. However our police likes to stay hidden and undercover from its citizen, and for what reason? Why are they hiding from us, they sneak around to try and get us in trouble for things that aren’t even a problem in most cases, like minor speeding tickets. They do this to meet their quotas. But that’s not where it stops. Police brutality is not something that’s suddenly uprising; it’s been around for a very long time. however recently it has been brought to headliners and gained the attention of hundreds of Americans due to the more drastic story’s that have been happening lately. Unfortunately a lot of these stories center around racism that still exists these days and not all cases of police brutality are caused from racism, but a majority of them are and there’s no denying that.
Later the article explains that Wilson, the officer that shot michael brown was let go out of federal court. With no charges. The article reports on the riots and protests that have been taking place in the town of ferguson.
On August 9, 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri, Brown and his friend Dorian Johnson are seen robbing a convenience store. They were caught on surveillance cameras and someone at the store makes a 911 call and then police were dispatched to Brown’s location. When Officer Darren Wilson encountered Brown, Brown was unarmed but he assaulted Wilson, and Wilson shoots at Brown. Two shots to be exact. First shot was in the police car, where the altercation took place. Then the second shot was outside on the street, where Michael Brown was attempting to flee the scene. The injuries of the shots placed on Brown were fatal. Brown died shortly thereafter on the street in Ferguson, Missouri. The aftermath of this shooting was very outspoken and noticeable. Ferguson residents were greatly angered by the death of Michael Brown. Residents claimed that there was no justice in shooting an unarmed man, and that police officer Darren Wilson should be fired from his position and punished for the death of Michael Brown. From personal experience on what I saw from the media was very shocking to me. After the death of Brown riots broke out with protestors storming the streets, and looting of businesses. The police faced the riots in protective gear, and used rubber bullets, and tear gas to disperse the crowds in the streets. Eventually the governor of Missouri declared a national state of emergency. And the National Guard was sent in to protect the city. Finally the trial for Michael Brown was going to take place after several weeks. Prosecuting attorney Robert McCulloch announced that the grand jury decided to not indict Officer Wilson for any crimes in regards to the shooting of Michael
Forensics later came out to support officers Wilsons statement that Brown had in fact charged at the officer and attempted to take Wilsons gun. It also proved that Brown did not have his hands up like the media had initially stated, which caused mass frenzy and a huge protest that led to chants of “hands up don’t shoot” and “black lives matter” (Hitchcock). Now people start to look at other facts how he didn’t have a weapon on him at the time of the shooting and say that they didn’t have to shoot and kill him. You do not need a gun or knife to be a danger to another person; you always have two weapons, which are your hands. Police shoot to kill they do not shoot to disarm (Miller) because you can still be a threat. It doesn’t mean that you still cannot kill someone who is a lot smaller than you without having a gun. Black lives matter has become a major group protesting all over major cities in the United States at the hands of Rev Al Sharpton. They have started many protest and campaigns to try and change laws in which police are aloud to use deadly force when trying to arrest a suspect.
