The United States has never seen such levels of obesity before, this epidemic is getting worse

Obesity is when you have an excessive amount of adipose tissue , or body fat. There are several different ways you can develop this “extra” fat. The more commonly known way is simply eating too much (consuming too many calories), but there are many other ways. These ways include health conditions, medicine side effects, emotional factors, smoking, age, genes & family history, lack of sleep, environment, inactive lifestyle, and lack of energy balance.

In the United States today, obesity has become an enormous problem. In the last 3 decades, the number of people overweight has increased dramatically. A study done by the Centers of Disease Control showed that since 1980, one third of our adult population has become overweight. America is the richest but also the fattest nation in the world and our obese backsides are the butt of jokes in every other country (Klein 28). The 1980s were a time when Americans suddenly started going crazy over dieting, jumping onto the treadmills, and buying prepackaged non-fat foods. This is America. The country with the highest obesity count. Why? Because ‘Murica that’s why.Recently, it’s becoming more of an issue. More ways than the average person would think. Now it isn’t just about being unhealthy, it can be bad socially as well.

Consumption of the wrong foods and no exercise cause obesity to step into the lives of many within America but on the other side of fence, complicated reasoning can run behind factors that hold a place with the individual’s overall characteristics, attitude, genetics tendencies and environment. Knowing the causes to obesity are important. Some causes of obesity are thought of off the bat. But some causes aren’t all that well known. Researchers have found many causes to the obesity epidemic in the U.S. Two main causes to obesity are added sugars/processed foods and genetics, specifically with one’s parents and grandparents. The last cause of obesity is the American government. Many citizens of the U.S think that all sugar is bad. This statement is not true. However the average in America is currently 41 teaspoons! Statistics have found that in the 13th century one pound of sugar would have costed roughly 360 eggs. Nowadays one pound of sugar would cost the same as only two eggs… this is a serious problem. The 1980’s was the national start of making and selling “low fat” products such as milk. In all reality this was also when the lowered the fat levels and raised the sugar levels sky high. As a result of extreme amounts of sugar in products it has given scientists evidence to prove that sugar is 8x more addictive than cocaine. Another cause of obesity is

America is rated the number one for obesity in the whole world, with a 30.6% of the population being classed as obese. Also it has had its own T.V. documentary show done on it, “Super Size Me” which shows what Americans eat and the drastic damage it can do to your body.

“Did you know that the average weight of an American has increased twenty-four pounds since 1960?” (Stewart). Obesity is a growing issue in America and the government and society want to have a say in this issue. The government can not stop a person from becoming obese. In order to understand why the government and society is too involved in obesity, one needs to understand the physical and emotional effects society has on America, and how media affects views on obesity, and the government controlling food portions in schools.

America is one of the richest, most progressive countries in the world. Shouldn’t it be one of the healthiest too? Maybe it should, but the sad truth is that most Americans are some of the unhealthiest people in the world. With that being said, “Obesity poses one of the greatest threats to the future of our public health, with more than 400 million people worldwide estimated to be obese and 1.6 billion estimated to be overweight” (World Health Organization, 2006). With obesity rising at an alarming rate, is it the fastest growing epidemic among children and adults in America today. Obesity can happen to anyone for many reasons and it can be reversed many different ways. There are several causes for obesity in America, including fast- food restaurants and their marketing, hereditary obesity, and people reacting to the stereotypes in the media that you must be beautiful to be accepted.

In our country today we are at an epidemic crisis with obesity. The United States is considered on the most developed and liberal country that is filled with opportunities for everyone. The one thing, we the U.S citizens are the proudest of is the title, Number 1 Fattest Developed Country. Our obesity in our country is increasing and so are the fast food restaurants so that we can maintain our amazing title of number 1.

The United States is one of the most developed countries in the world. Everything you’ve ever wanted can be accomplished here. But the thing we are proudest of is being the fattest country. Everyday our obesity rate is increasing and so are the amount of fast food restaurants so thankfully we are able to keep our awesome spot as #1 fattest country.

In 2012, at least one-third of U.S. adults were obese.1 It is expected by 2018 that the number of obese adults increases to half of U.S. adults.2 The rates for children and adolescents are increasing as well. In 2012, about seventeen percent of children and adolescents were obese.2 However, the number of obese individuals vary throughout the U.S. The South and Midwest have a higher prevalence of obesity while the West and Northeast have lower rates.3 America, on the other hand, is not the only country with increasing rates. Obesity is a huge issue, not only in america but worldwide. Many methods of preventing obesity exist, and there are many ways to reverse bad choices leading to obesity. There are also many causes and effects of obesity, some are more common than the other. Not to mention when being obese you put yourself at risk for type two diabetes. You can prevent obesity and type two diabetes easily, if you know how to and have the will power. There are many causes and effects of obesity, also there are ways to prevent obesity, one effect of obesity is type two diabetes.

The problem with obesity in america is that there is too many people overweight by either a few pounds or 100 maybe more. America is the number 1 most obese place in the world and sadly our numbers will keep going up. We are so overweight because we give into buying junk food for the cheap price. Our children are overweight because we don't give them the right foods they should be eating. The weight is a problem and we need to fix it by doing 2 simply things; exercise and eating healthy food.
