The main features of the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) is that it requires certain health and safety procedures to be maintained in a health and social care setting, for example, the act explains that there must be, safe operation and maintenance of working equipment, plant and system, maintenance of safe access to the workplace, safe use, handling and storage of dangerous/hazardous substances, training of staff to ensure that there is health and safety, to provide welfare for staff at work.

Health and safety requirements, safe working practiced and procedures required for the hand fitting activities untaken include always wearing your personal protective equipment. 3.7. Using a risk assessment to promote health and safety is very important to ensure that the individual is kept safe in the work place. Risk assessments evaluate the risks and identify hazards to put precautions in place to reduce the risks. Reporting and recording the outcome of the risk assessments make things more clear and is careful to keep everybody protected and safe.

Also to avoid dangerous moving and handling, the employees then have the responsibility of making sure they use all equipment as they have been trained to do so, follow all health and safety working practices within their workplace, avoid putting themselves, other staff, individuals or visitors at risk, and making sure they report any hazards or risks to their employer.
