My Mom Is My Hero

Everyone has someone they look up to, and everyone has a different hero. Some people’s heros may be someone famous or someone in a book. My hero just happens to be my mother, Naomi Peterson. She raised me and continues to raise me into the person I am and the person I am becoming. She taught me from a very young age how to be a hard worker and to help others. For obvious reasons she is my idol and hero.
When I think about the qualities of a hero, I think of someone who is courageous, loving, and selfless. My mom is all of these and more. When I was young and even today, I remember my mom doing things for others. She visited our neighbors, or cared for anyone who was sick or afflicted. Especially the widows. Looking back, my mother was raising two kids at home and taking care of the women of the ward. She did it wonderfully and I’m so grateful for her example.I learned an important lesson from her about how to be selfless.
When my mother was in fourth grade, she was playing tag at recess. Then one of the boys grabbed her hair and didn’t let go. So my mother swung to make the boy let go, and they ended up getting in a fist fight. The kids at recess began to surround them and started yelling stuff. Somehow she got ahold of the boys hands, swung him around and let go just right so he slid down the hill that they were on. After that the boys never bugged her again. Even though my mother was shy, I think that is pretty courageous for a young girl. When she tells me that story she reminds me to have courage and stick up for yourself and for others.
My mother lives 2,872 miles away from her parents. Every time we go to Hawaii it breaks my heart when she has to leave my grandparents. I admire my mother so much for being able to stay strong living so far away especially as they are getting so old. She has a tremendous amount of courage being able to adjust to a new culture in Idaho.
My mom has raised five children, and I am the last one at home. “Perhaps it takes courage to raise children..” (Steinbeck) I think that couldn’t be more true. She raised all three of my older sisters to be
