The job of a military police officer, otherwise known as an MP, can be demanding and at times dangerous. The role of an MP is an essential part in completing the military’s mission, which is to defend freedom and democracy and free others from oppression. Military policemen go through extensive training to prepare them for the rigors of military duty. This training also prepares them for a follow-on career in law enforcement once their career in the military is complete. There are many benefits and rewards to being in the military as a military police officer.
The Military Police Corps is one of the youngest branches of the United States Army. It was formed on September 26th, 1941. Soldiers have been performing these duties since the Revolutionary War. Military Police have served with distinction in all the major conflicts involving the United States. They became a combat support branch after the Vietnam War due to their distinguished service.
Military police officers perform a variety of tasks such as, law enforcement patrols, interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects in investigations, provide security for crime scenes, and arrest criminal suspects. Depending on your rank you would be in a supervisory role. They receive quarterly and annual evaluations on the performance of their duties. All military personnel to include MP’s are required to meet and uphold the Army values. These are Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.
In the United States, there are city, county, state, and national police forces. They have very difficult and dangerous responsibilities. These public servants are required to perform many different jobs. They enforce laws and maintain order. They teach people how to help prevent crime and to protect themselves ( Mittleman, 2000). They offer assistance and take charge of many different situations such as car accidents, flooding, and hurricanes. Police
The branches of the military are: the US Marine Corps, the US Army, the US Navy, the US Air Force, the US Coast Guard, and US Special Operations Command. The US Marine Corps works very closely with the Navy and they are typically the first one on the ground when it comes to combat. The Army protects the security of the US and our resources. The Navy defends our rights to freely travel and trade on the oceans as well as protect our national interests that are overseas. The Air Force focuses on air power abroad and home. The Coast Guard protect the environment, public, and security and economic interest that are in a maritime region. The Coast Guard not only falls under the DOD, but also the Department of Homeland Security. It gives me a leg up on other applicants for police jobs that only have a degree or military training. With both military training and a degree, the only competition for a job is someone with both military training and degree like me or someone who already is a police officer and is looking to move somewhere else. The job outlook for future police jobs looks good because as the population increases every year, the criminal element increases as well resulting in more police officers needed to deal with the increase in crime. This increase in police jobs also means there are more openings for advancement to higher level police jobs such as Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) or a police dog handler (K-9 Unit). Both of these police jobs appeal to me and would be the pinnacle of my career, only barely being beaten by becoming a SWAT Commander or a Police Chief. Getting either a SWAT or K-9 Officer job is going to be tough because these two higher level police jobs are the most sought after by police officers, especially those officers that are ex-military as in the case of SWAT. In order to get a SWAT or K-9 job, I plan on showing them I am the best person for the job. I am working on this even now by keeping up with my physical training by working out twice a day. I go to the gym for two hours in the morning and then in the evening, doing sprint drills
Law enforcement officers are a part of our communities to protect and serve us from danger and to apprehend criminals that disobey the law. It is their job to apprehend criminals and respond to calls from the people. Most enforcement officers have to stay in their designated areas, or jurisdiction, and respond to any calls or monitor the area. They are there to catch any
Military Police have many jobs and have to meet many requirements to be able to do their jobs. They have to go through a lot of training in order to do everything required of them. They have to be able to react quickly and calmly in any situation and evaluate the situation with clear and responsive actions and everything in the training helps them do that. They receive a good salary and benefits and it goes hand-in-hand with the rank of the officer.
As a young college graduate COL Mahoney wanted to join the Army and make an immediate impact in law enforcement; so he became a member of the Military Police (MP) Corps in1982. With discipline and dedication, he climbed the ranks, obeyed the orders of his superiors, motivated his peers to persevere, encouraged his subordinates, and honed his personal leadership skills. Time after time he led the physical training sessions and the complex mission requirements training of the MP force in each of his units.

As a police officer, the major objectives are to maintain order, enforce the law, protect one’s property, and to save lives. In addition, police are divided into two roles based on how they perform their duties. The two roles of a police officer are a public servant and a crime fighter. A police officer whose role as a public servant is to serve all types of people, as well as criminals. Public servants regularly provide advice and make judgments as to the degree of risk they should take with the public. Many decisions involving risk are relatively easy to make, but others are complex and significant consequences (Kernaghan and Langford, 2016). These risks may involve using force and the consequences could be media backlash or a potential termination. Public servants abide by the oath and uphold the integrity and honor of the organization as an officer. Also, public servant officers like to play it safe because they like to be known as ordinary citizens who like to go home to their
As technology continues to advance, the people in this world tend to follow those changes to improve their quality of life. It is important for law enforcement agencies to evolve and adapt to those changes. A quasi-military structured law enforcement organization is a great way to adapt to new policies and changes. Law enforcement agencies and the military share very similar rank and command structures. A military structured police agency is often times looked at in a negative way. Policing is a dangerous occupation; one you might find yourself placed in a situation where you may legally have to take the life of another human being. Although a quasi-military law enforcement agency is more disciplined and better prepared for a crisis situation, it is not ideal for daily law enforcement operations.
Officer DiPace believes militiary experiene can help in the fieild of police work. Military experience is helpful in learning how to work in a team oriented environment. Individuals with military experience usually adapt well to life as a police officer. Though not always thought of as a skill, being a good listener and communicator is something that will always be useful in dealing with stressful situations that a officer may encounter. In general, the most useful skill is the desire to have a meaningful and positive impact on the community. A desire to help others is very important as a police officer as it can serve as a driving force during diffcult
Webster’s dictionary defines the word profession as a type of job that requires special education, training, or skill. Many Soldiers would not consider the Army as a profession but a way of life. Some think the word profession belongs to everyday jobs like a plumber, mechanic, or doctor. Dr. Don M. Snider stated “the Army is a profession because of the expert work it produces, because the people in the Army develop themselves to be professionals, and because the Army certifies them as such” (Snider, D. M. 2008). In October 2010, the Secretary of the Army directed the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) to lead an Army wide assessment of the state of the Army Profession. We have been at war as a Country for over a decade and the Army
I have wanted to go into the military since i was very young. Most children say that they want to be a firefighter or a doctor, but i said that i wanted to be in the military. I remeber looking at pictures and learning about military officers and i felt called to be one of those men. My decision and dreams never changed, as most childrens do when they realize the work required. But for reasons beyond my comprehension, my desire of a miltary life never wavered. Both of my parents' fathers served in the military, one n the Air Force and one in the Army. They told me stories of their days in the military, bragging of their different branhes and I took what they said and choose a school that woud lead to a career in neither of their branches.
The curriculum that is devised for a police officer is very important to the police officer and his or her success in their chosen career path. An officer’s training is also very important to the community in which they serve and the department in which they work. Officers receive training in such areas as: law, community relations, firearms, vehicle driving, search and seizure, and cultural awareness. The basic curriculum that is offered to a new recruit is focused on giving the recruit the best overall training that will give him or her the tools necessary to become the
Reasons why I should not fall asleep on duty. If I was to get called to a traffic accident or a domestic dispute I would not be able to respond because I would be asleep. Being a military police officer means that I will be discipline physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my officer tasks and duties. For instance if
