A medical practice that I have highly considered is general surgery. Both my grandfather and uncle are general surgeons, so the idea of following in their footsteps interested me greatly. Also, the idea of combining science and art, as doctors do, has always fascinated me and called me to this profession since a very young age. Like any doctor, the road to becoming a general surgeon is vigorous. “Surgery is a career for the committed. Much of your life is dictated by the demands of the operating room. The training is long and demanding. But for those who love it, a
In the episode “Give Peace A Chance” of Grey’s Anatomy, Dr. Derek Shepherd is given an impossible case and has to make a decision to cut out a massive spinal tumor of a lab technician he is familiar with at the hospital. The chief of the hospital and Dr. Shepherd are having a hard time with some of the decisions the chief has recently made regarding the hospital’s merger and this creates conflict further into the episode. A resident doctor in the hospital, Dr. Karev, is having troubles with his cancer wife who has fled and left him with an enormous amount of bills from the hospital for her recent treatments. This episode uses all parts of the rhetorical triangle, but particularly through pathos doctors in the episode are able to heavily connect with the audience.
This book’s main characters consisted of Anastasia Steele, an independent, driven college student, who speaks is telling the story, and Christian Grey, CEO of Grey Enterprises Holdings and Co, and is portrayed throughout this book in a sense as if he is every girl’s dream guy.

First, _________________________________. Throughout the entire novel, he recounts a plethora of personal medical experiences derived from his ears surrounded by and immersed in surgery. Furthermore, he clearly lays down his credibility towards the beginning of the novel by stating, “I am a surgical resident, very nearly at the end of my eight years of training in general surgery… At other times I have been a laboratory scientist, a public health researcher, a student of philosophy and ethics, and a health policy adviser in government. I am also a son of two doctors” (Gawande 7). By stating his expansive experiences, people are more adept to agree with his displayed views later in the writing. Medicine is a controversial topic, and introducing these past experiences plays a critical role in
That is where credentials are important to know to what specifically the surgeon is specialized in. For example, the fact that someone is an experience surgeon to deliver pregnant women does not mean he/she has experience and practice to operate on a woman have a breast reduction. In other undeveloped countries, I am aware of one surgeon is able to operate on people with many different issues. I have heard the story of Gynecologist surgeon who also operates on children with other birth defect. But, I like the way it is over here in this country, there is almost surgeons who practice very specific part of the body. This way, it is safer, and without much doubt one knows that he/she is dealing with someone who is trained, educated, and experienced in one particular field. In some particular cases, hospitals have granted privileges to physicians/surgeons to carry out certain procedures, but cannot depend on theoretical knowledge. Medicine is one the fields where theoretical knowledge only will not be considered as proof of experience. Also, no one can claim to be experienced through training and practice without the required years of theoretical knowledge. Both are required here, theory and practice. However, specific practice is required. For the surgeon needs to specialize in a particular area.

Women often receive scrutiny in a male dominated workplace. As of 2017, there are 271 general surgery residency programs in the United States. Out of this large number, 16 are lead by women compared to only 1 in 2014 (Sharma). Women’s roles in the workplace are adapting and stereotypes about the differentiation between male and female work are being broken down. Grey’s Anatomy is a show that explores the complexities of balancing the personal and professional lives of medical residents at Seattle Grace Hospital. This study will hope to address how avid viewers of this show interpret the character’s roles and how it correlates with real life.
When it comes to television and movie films there are many of the same elements that may only be different by the slightest of things, but one thing that will always stay constant is when the show and/or film is created, the time period of the world is intertwined through the characters gender roles. When comparing a 1950’s show to today’s favorites, gender roles would be very different challenging and reinforcing stereotypes due to how women and men were portrayed in the world in the past and the present. Women especially, have been challenged in the working field for time and time again and in the show Grey’s Anatomy (season 12 episode 7), it is clear how the creators not only reinforced typical male and female stereotypes but challenged them in the same few moments of a scene as well. Grey’s Anatomy reinforces how women are thought to be, challenge the position a women holds, reinforces a dominant male stereotype, and challenges male stereotypes of emotion.

When one thinks of the word medieval, there appear to be almost an instantaneous reaction. Some may see the period associated with the gothic architecture, Crusades, brutalism, death, the Black Plague, illiteracy, or the Dark Ages. Others may interpret the period as one full of valiant knights, princesses waiting to be saved, jousting, castles, and noble kings and queens. From video games such as The Legend of Zelda and the popular HBO television series A Game of Thrones, to accounts of medieval torture or treatment in the newspapers, the Middle Ages seems to be more relevant than ever. However, it can be argued that much about what we know about the real Middle Ages was constructed in the nineteenth century due to a comparative lack of records and the imaginative portrayal of the period by the Victorians. Due to the tumultuous period that was the Industrial Revolution, many social critics and artists turned back to the Middle Ages in order to reflect their anxieties of the present and the hopes and expectations of the future. I began to note that the medievalist movement was built upon medieval studies through a desire to create, rather than retrieve the past, which in turn lead to academic debates about authenticity and furthered the tension between the two fields leading to an almost insurmountable break. Those in medieval studies look towards medievalism as a misguided attempt to contemplate history which in turn changed the public’s understanding towards the era away
