The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a book of fate and how everyone in the world affects the happenings of this world. The author of this extraordinary book is William Shakespeare. Although Romeo and Juliet killed themselves, there were many people responsible for their deaths. It is arguable that the parents of the two lovers, Friar Laurence, and Romeo and Juliet themselves were the most responsible, some could say that the other main characters like Mercutio, Benvolio, Tybalt, the Nurse, and Paris were involved as well. There were many people responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, although they took their own lives, they were not all to blame.
Lois Kerschen, a college English professor stated, “...the love of Romeo and Juliet was too ideal to survive in this imperfect world, it would seem a shame to think of true, passionate love inevitably leading to a bad result”(Kerschen 1). “Thy love did read by rote and could not spell. But come, young waverer, come, go with me, in one respect I'll thy assistant be; for this alliance may so happy prove, to turn your households' rancour to pure love”(Act 3.2). Even though the Friar was trying to bring the two families together by marrying Romeo and Juliet, he should have known that it was going to bring stress to both Romeo and Juliet. He should not have encourage “forbidden
Throughout the book, Friar Lawrence shows the he has a virtue of peace to bring to feuding families together. Friar Lawrence’s soul reason for the marriage of Romeo and Juliet is to make an attempt at ending the feud between the families. Friar Lawrence said,“In one respect I'll thy assist be: / for this alliance may so happy prove/ to turn to your households’ rancour to pure love” (II.III.90-93). By marrying Romeo and Juliet he sees an opportunity to end the feud, once the parents of each households find out about the marriage maybe they would put aside their feud for the sake of their children. Friar Lawrence is wondering when Romeo will tell everyone about his marriage. “Where thou shalt live till we can find a time/ to blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends” (III.III.150-151). Friar Lawrence shows in this quote that he wants Romeo to tell everyone about his marriage so that it will bring harmony between the two feuding families.
Romeo and Juliet deceive others due to the poor guidance they receive about their situation. They resort to deceit as a resolution for their desperate situations. Friar Laurence performs their secret marriage as he believes that this alliance could ‘…Turn [their] household’s rancour to pure love’. Juliet is later forced to marry Paris and asks the Nurse for assistance. The Nurse replies that Juliet is ‘…better in this second match’. The Nurse helped Juliet to marry Romeo but as the situation becomes tricky, she betrays Juliet and encourages her to marry Paris; she provides poor guidance in doing so. This poor advice convinces Juliet to consider a plan involving a ‘desperate… execution’. This desperate execution is provided to Juliet by Friar Laurence who provides Juliet with a potion that puts her in a sleep like death. The Friar
Friar Lawrence asked Romeo and Juliet to marry in an effort to end the feud between their families, the Montagues and the Capulets. He initially made this point by stating, “But come, young waverer, come go with me…. For this alliance may so happy
Juliet wanted to get out of an arranged marriage with Paris so badly, she wanted to kill herself. She was also distraught because Romeo was banned from Verona, and she can’t see him. Friar Lawrence helped her plan to fake her death, he gave her a potion to make her fall asleep for forty-two hours. “Take thou this vial, being then in bed, When presently through all thy vein shall run a cold and drowsy humor; for no pulse shall keep his native progress, but surcease; no warmth, no breath, shall testify thou livest…”(Shakespeare 818). This quote helps show that Friar was helping Juliet.
The story of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, results in a tragedy where both main characters die. Friar Lawrence, a character Romeo and Juliet turn to for advice, is the cause of this tragedy. Friar Lawrence is responsible for organising the marriage of Romeo and Juliet, devising a plan to help Juliet fake her death, and he is responsible for the letter informing Romeo of this plan which does not arrive. These three events lead to both Romeo and Juliet committing suicide.
Even though numerous characters in the play contributed to the death of Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence’s irresponsibility and lack of recognition makes him most to blame. To begin, Romeo proposes the idea about marring Juliet, a member of the Capulet Family by telling Friar Laurence “Then plainly know my heart's dear love is set on the fair daughter of rich Capulet (2.3.57-58). Romeo has completely forgotten about Rosaline, and now has focused his love onto Juliet. The Friar agrees with Romeo. Friar Laurence's decision is irresponsible because he agrees with the idea of members of opposite noble families being married. By marrying Romeo and Juliet, Friar is acting like Lord
To begin, Friar Lawrence is the most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he is the one that married them. If he had told the parents of Romeo and Juliet about their marriage then the two wouldn't have died. Instead he wanted tried to join the feuding families all on his own. The pair came to Friar Lawrence in need for his help when they first fell in love. Although the laws of the church forbid the marriage of Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence agreed to it anyway and risked his place in the church. If Friar Lawrence had denied their request for marriage, then the two lovers may have lived in the end.
Firstly, one character who is undeniably responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death is Friar Laurence. There are three primary reasons he is accountable for Romeo and Juliet’s death. The first reason is that he gave the poison to Juliet. In the last few scenes of Act Three, we find out that Juliet will have to marry Paris and because she does not want to, she seeks Friar Laurence for advice. Juliet’s feels that her only solution is to kill herself, but Friar Laurence advises her there is another way out; drinking the potion that will stop her pulse and breathing, making her seem like she is dead for forty-two hours: “When presently through all thy veins shall run / A cold and drowsy humour, for no pulse / No warmth, no breath, shall testify thou livest, / The roses in thy
In the play, Romeo and Juliet, help the reader understand who was the blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death. Friar Laurence is to blame for Romeo and Juliet death because of their belief in him and him failing with his plan of her faking her death, him marring them, and not getting the letter to Romeo on time. Another important detail to explain how friar Laurence was the blame of Romeo and Juliet’s death, is because the only reason Friar agreed to marry them is because he thought the fuel between the families would die down. And he also knew Romeo and Juliet would get in big trouble if their family would’ve known they have gotten married. The third detail important to the play is Friar Laurence plan didn’t go as expected an parentally the letter didn’t get to Romeo and before you knew it the married couple was both lying beside each other dead.

Romeo and Juliet put their trust in Friar lawrence, and thru a series of accidents and unfortunate events, the trust they put in him results in their death. Friar Lawrence gives Juliet her potion, marries the doomed couple, and does not fully think things through.
One significant factor that is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is the underhanded actions of the Friar during the effort to wed Romeo and Juliet. This is significant because the marriage enabled and encouraged Romeo
“ Take thou this vial being in bed, and take this distilled liquor drink thou off” ( IV.i.93-94). This shows that he gives Juliet the sleeping and directions on how she supposed to take the potion correctly. “ When presently through all thy veins shall eun a drowsy humor” (IV.i.95-96). Also he told her what it would feel like and how it will affect her. Based on the play the Friar lawrence had known about juliet wanting to fake her death. He suggested for her to drink the potion and still didn't go tell romeo anything that was going
