I hate reading and writing I never show interesting and I thought it was boring and just slept the whole period. But taking English 096 in my first semester at Harold Washington has impacted my writing skills in a positive way. This class helped me to learn more the skills I needed to become a better writer I college and for my future. Professor Thomas helped me with my writing and showed me that I do not have to be a perfect writer to get my point across. Like every writer we have are weaknesses and are strongest strategies. One of my weak is brainstorming ideas for my topic or how to compare two stories. But the class thought me how to comprehend the stories and try to make things they have in common. English 096 have also helped me to communicate more with my peers. My peers will help me revise my writing and make common so I can fix them and just make my final draft. I changed how I write because when the semester I was as good as a writer because I thought it was boring. But time passed I started to feel interesting and with the help of the professor I started to write better. The professor was determined to make us better writer. He would do every morning warm up and it seems small but it had an impact of how I write. Because I learned little things I never heard about. …show more content…
But the professor would give stories and give us some strategies to so we can comprehend the stories. And the stories would be interesting and I wouldn’t get sleepy and try my best to understand it. But over time I would annotate and do little notes on the side so I can know what the paragraph was about. I started using more the dictionary because I learned when you read look for and you don’t understand a word look for it in the dictionary. It a great help and the professor thought us more thing to improve are reading and to understand the
I have been a student at San Jose States University for second years, English 1A was my first regular English class, and over the course of my stay I have grown and learned a lot. As Hospitality major, I do not know whether need my writing skills for future job, but I know the great experience in English 1A class would help me to improve all my writing weakness.
Throughout this course, I was able to assess and evaluate my weaknesses and strengths in writing. This class has truly brought out my ability to write, a skill I did not believe I had. I now know what it takes to become a college-level writer. Also, at the beginning of the course I did not particularly enjoy writing. Now, however, I have a greater respect for
The past two semesters were great experiences. Within this past school year my knowledge as a reader and writer has improved. It felt like it was just yesterday, when I had a lot of difficulty writing and poor reading strategies. Now, as I said before, I am an improved writer and reader. The assignments and class activities over the two semesters were great benefits to me, and helped me make progress towards the first year learning goals.
One of my weaknesses in my writing is that I tend to have a “one track mind”. Once I have an idea about how to word something or organize an essay, I tend to only see it from that perspective, even if it’s not the most optimal way to convey my arguments. This class helped me think outside of the box and learn to organize things like I would not normally do, this included how I would analyze texts or synthesize ideas. The in-class activities helped me learn to be creative, the class readings gave me examples on how to organize that creativity and the instructor conferences helped me further organize my thoughts and organization.
Working a full-time job, raising children, and attending college are not an easy task as many people could think. Parents always have difficulties in managing and prioritizing their time. I had to sacrifice my social life as well as my family this semester because I needed to focus on my English 1100 class. MacCaughey, who is my English 1100 instructor, has helped me grow as a writer because of the way he taught us on how to be a good writer. My confidence as a writer had always been low and I never had a clear direction in writing. Through this class, I was able to learn how to develop my ideas into writing process. Ascending the banisters of my writing process, I greatly learned about the narrative style of writing, the formal way to critical analyze a text, and write a response about it. I also learned how to write a persuasive text in a conveying manner and answering a question with the help of a secondary source more of
In my opinion my writing ability before I arrived in this course at the University of Dubuque was fair, it wasn’t outstanding, but it wasn’t horrible. My biggest obstacles I faced in this course was coming up with a good topic to write about. Coming up with a topic you care about and can expand on your ideas can be a challenge. When learning to write in a more cohesive manner, I think the chapters we took notes on were very beneficial to improving my writing. It showed me the proper way to write a thesis and how to compose my papers. I also believe practicing our writing by journaling helped me learn to write what is going through my mind and it helped me to just learn to get my thoughts and ideas down on paper.
Throughout the courses in both ENG 1008 & 1009, I learned and improved my ways of writing in different directions. Both classes were helped me to improve my writing as a writer. The things, which I learned in the course was how writing is taking the responsibility of the audience, how writing is meaning full way to communicate, address, and to create awareness to the audience in different issues, and how it has effects on the society. Furthermore,
When I enrolled in this class, I was sure that it will influence the way I write and read. I have a relatively large experience with academic writing and reading; still, I would have benefited even from slight improvements in my approach, methods, and techniques I use for writing and reading assignments. Because of this class my reading, writing, and thinking processes became more efficient.
This is the second writing course I’ve taken in college, and it has ultimately helped with my writing abilities. Something significant that I have learned throughout this course, which I didn’t previously know, is the complete writing process. I was unaware of the distancing period. This certainly helped give me a renewed outlook of what I was trying to accomplish in my essays. Similarly, this course has brought to my attention revising resources I was unaware of. I found the smarthinking website to be very useful in completing my essays, and I know it will be beneficial for future
I believe that I have improved as a writer by taking this class. When I first started sixteen weeks ago I could barely put a paragraph together that made any sense at all. Now I have more confidence in what I have learned. To use these tools, make a paragraph that makes more sense. I now am able to write a simple essay with little to no problem at all with some and body of a research paper. You as my teacher have given me advice on how, to look at my essay and tear it apart and help me to rebuild it and see how I can improve it, and make it better. I learned to accept corrective criticism and use it for the better. I understand my classmates are trying to bring across in their argument. This in this classroom is what makes a person a better
This class has taught me things that may help my writing, and also things that I don’t find as useful. I thought practicing comma rules gave me a better understanding of punctuation, but I still don’t fully understand passive and active sentence structure. I’ve explored different ways to write a paper and realized my favorite is starting with an outline. I try to get all of my ideas organized where I want them before going in and writing pages at a time. I never found peer editing quite as useful, because a lot of times I don’t like having other students read my work. All of these examples have lead me to become the writer I am now compared to the beginning of the semester.
The Fall Quarter here at Bellevue College has helped me increase and further enhance my writing capabilities. Having to forget all my past knowledge in high school level writing was challenging but necessary. In the past, my writing never had the opportunity to progress. My high school essays were all carbon copies of each other. I would do the bare minimum and not put any effort into my writing, but still I would somehow receive a passing grade. The majority of the time I would wait until the night before the essay was due to start it. It would usually take me less than three hours to complete a paper. I became more focused on doing exactly what the teacher wanted than working on developing my style and enhancing my writing skills. After taking English 101, I have learned that writing is a process and I can’t write an essay the night before it’s due and expect a satisfactory grade. Taking English 101 has led me to think more critically towards my writing and others, develop style and tone, and learn how to use collaboration to my benefit.
This English course was a vastly informative class. We covered lots of criteria material and discussed topics during class. During the course, I have accomplish a variety of goals I once thought were unachievable. I still have a little ways to go to become the best writer I can be but by taking this course I have been able to expand and learn as a writer, editor, and analyzer of my work, peers work, and academic work. I have learned from others as others have learned from me. I have tried to improve particular aspects of my writing but continue to struggle with other aspects. I have found new strategies and breakthroughs that have allowed me to improve my essays. However, I am still learning how to write and believe that I always shall
My last class was not a good writing experience; therefore I was hesitant to fully embrace this session’s writing course. Because I do not believe in expectations, my goals were based on previous writing experiences. This helped to support what writing confidence I had left to give this course a chance to be different. In English106, my desire was to improve my writing skills, find weaknesses in my writing, and be a better writer at the end of the course.
His classes were so active and engaging that I couldn’t help falling in love with English. Me, who once hated English and could not write even a proper paragraph, am now writing an organized, well-formatted college paper. I count this as one of my greatest achievements. Learning is now more about bringing out my potentiality on the piece of paper rather than having to focus and stick to the teacher’s ideas. When the class is raised to a discussion on a particular issue everybody is working on, ideas pop out from all around the class forcing me to think from different perspectives. There is always room for me to rectify my misconceptions. The learning experience was suddenly crafted in a way which encouraged me to compete with myself. I found my writing skills getting better and better with every class I attended. After 15 years of ineffective education, I finally found out the reason for my failures in the past and my way in to academic success.
