In “Bring Back Flogging”, Jeff Jacoby addresses the problems within America 's criminal justice system. He gives many reasons why imprisonment simply does not work, and suggests that corporal punishment should be used as an alternative. Published in the Boston Globe, a newspaper well known for being liberal, Jacoby provides a conservative view and directs his argument towards those who strongly support imprisonment and view corporal punishment to be highly barbaric and inhumane. Do traffic signals make a difference when drivers are conducting their vehicles? In U.K. the roads have less signs and are smaller roads than in the United States. The United States has great amounts of traffic signals and symbols all over the road to make the driver more aware. In the U.K. accidents do occur but not that often has in the United States. In the Unites States every second there is huge amounts of accidents going on over the nation. John Staddon in his magazine article “Distracting Miss Daisy” tries to persuade that traffic control is making traffic more dangerous because we do not pay attention to the road, but to the signals.

Texting and driving is one of the most debated topics in society. Whether it affects all people or whether or not you’re just good at multi tasking. The president, Barack Obama gave a speech at Howard University commencement ceremony. Speaking to the graduating class about the need to keep pushing for change he gave the students at the historically black university advise on how to shape your own future and to always strike for better. The president argues that the U.S and the world is becoming a better place than when he was a collage student. However, there is still work to be done when it comes to employment, achievements, and justice for African Americans. The president also mentions to be confident in your heritage and to aim for greatness. Also that empathy should be extended to all people who are struggling to achieve success or a goal. Daniel Bor, a psychological researcher, and author, wrote an article titled “When Do We Become Truly Conscious” published on September 4, 2012 and in this article he discusses the idea of consciousness. Through use of deductive reasoning Bor refers to early opinions viewing consciousness as magic and discusses the science behind demystifying consciousness. Bor also discusses the ethical arguments behind learning for about consciousness. Bor also lists some of the emotional arguments centered on human awareness. Bor’s use of rhetorical strategies is designed to state his opinion in a simple and easily read way.

Dennis P. Kimbo once said, “Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it.” Despite the numerous obstacles of life, people can choose how they react. Today, many people are faced with the obstacle of life threatening diseases. By some diseases being incurable, the cloud of only having so much longer to live hangs over them. As a result, some may choose the option of euthanasia if it is available. In the contrasting pieces of writing, Kara Tippetts use of ethos about euthanasia is more convincing than Brittany Maynard use of logos.

The article states that fear has become a huge deal ever since the presidential elections divided the nation. The American President has bottled up fear within most minorities, especially in African Americans. The article suggests that Donald Trump’s focus was mainly on protecting confederate statues rather than protecting African-Americans and minorities from discrimination and violence.The author seemed to have gathered the information by completing a report on Donald Trump’s speech. The article was meant to be read by minorities who are being ignored by the president and to white Americans. This article is similar to the other article because they both describe the fear that is bottled up inside Americans, whether it is because of threats

My argument is about the bakery owners who refused to sell the same sex couple a cake for their wedding. I do not agree that they should've had to pay "$135,000 in emotional damages". The Christian owners of this bakery denied to bake the cake for the couple because they do not believe in same sex marriage. "

As a developing and growing student, I realize that I need a plan for success, even though that plan may change. At Indiana University Bloomington, I plan to study in the School of Art and Design in order to eventually become an interior designer. While I may change my career choice and area of study, my drive and dedication to achieve excellence will never waver. However, that does not mean that I will not face challenges along the way.

In her article “Tattoos are no longer permanent but removal can be a long and costly business,” Victoria Lambert (2015) explains that tattoos can be removed with laser, an injectable liquid and surgery. However, the process for each option is not only time consuming, expensive, painful, but can also have severe consequences. Lambert points out that most people, a while after they have been tattooed, figure out the useless of their body art, and decide to pay any price to get them removed. He affirms that the laser option, in addition, to being expensive, extensive and painful, can also cause skin disorders with the uncertainty of complete removal. Lambert also claims that another possibility, which is the liquid injectable, is not efficient

Starting a conversation on literature, I can see where I struggle to look deeper into a source for its rhetorical significance. An example of this is in my Immigration and belonging essay as I state, “Reyes’s narrative argues for understanding from the reader with his genre.” (PAGE). While this line sounds significant, I find the preceding sentence struggling to support this claim as there are no quotations or paraphrases that highlight how this sentence is seen emotionally in the article. Following that idea, rhetoric can be easily found by looking at the ethos, logos, and pathos. However, I find that when using this method for finding rhetorical information, my analysis of the source is surface level (as seen in the above example).

After some digging online I found this youtube video which is a speech made by the first Hindu woman elected to congress back in 2013. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard speaks about being the first Hindu American Member Of Congress. I believe this video is important because it displays the growing consensus of Americans for gender, race, and religious equality. Her speech also touches base on the points of discrimination, persecution, and misconceptions the Hinduism. Her words help to shed light on these issues and her ambition and vision are an empowering to her people. She sees it as the responsibility and role of each person to get involved and stop these injustices. I completely agree with her because from my research on finding an article

Stella Young has lived with a disability all of her life, but has never let that stand in her way. While speaking at a TED conference in 2014 Young wanted to address an issue that most individuals overlook. This issue is about people with disabilities and the struggle they face every day to feel equal and part of a social norm. Stella speaks from experience and tries to make her audience see a new perspective of how individuals look at others with disabilities. Stella makes it clear that most individuals see people with disabilities as an inspiration which is widely propagated. In order for her audience to understand this view she shows a series of images to appeal both to logos and pathos. Stella wanted to show that we view these images logically

Today we graduate from WRIT1000! Whilst we may have entered New Law Learning Studio unaware of the significance of ethos, pathos and logos, we leave with a newfound appreciation of the rhetorical situation.
