When people associate things with the word “dark” there mainly referring to things that are evil, bad or have an evil look. So when you put the label “Dark ages” on the Middle ages, you make the assumption that it was not a good time. But you’d be mistaken, it was completely the opposite. Though not much revolution took place in the early Middle Ages, the people were happy and content, and "the Dark Ages" just doesn’t fit with that, it’s not a accurate label to put on the Middle Ages.

The middle ages are often identified as the Dark Age because of the Black Death, invasions by the Barbarians, and because of lack of enlightenment for the common people. A plague most likely originating from Asia spread throughout Europe. Towns and even large cities

The dark ages, a time period spanning from 500 AD until 1500 AD, is commonly perceived as the worst time in history, solely because of its name. When asked “What is the dark ages generally known for?” many people respond with the black plague or great famines. The main reason for this title is in fact due to a lack of written records and documents lost to history. In reality, the dark ages were not really that dark because a humanitarian king shaped European ideals, religion kept culture alive, and many historical and scientific progressions occurred.

In the 1300s, Petrarch, an Italian Scholar used the term "dark ages" which applied "dark" and "light" to describe the period. Historians kept wondering " Was Europe really in a dark age from 500 to 1500"? The ongoing argument involves events such as the Crusades, The Black Death, the signing of the Magna Carta, and the building of universities and cathedrals. But although, there was destruction and prosper. While Europe had long lasting improvements, it was still a lot of destruction, during this period.

The time period from the fifth to the fifteenth century was known as the Middle Ages. The Middle Ages in Europe was also a time of prosperity and hope. New civilizations were formed and the industrial revolution started. Towns became so much easier to control and population grew because of modern conveniences. They changed the way the people of the Middle Ages lived. The Middle Ages should not be called the Dark Ages because structured laws called for order, education changed the way people thought, universities were founded, the economy prospered, and food supply increased the population.

As well as the Black Death, the crusades also contributed to Europe being a dark age. The crusades were a religious war between the Christians and Muslims. The Black Death found its way into Western Europe through the trade routes from Asia to Europe. The rats, or more specifically the fleas on said rats, would ride the ships into the heart of Europe, spreading the plague to the unaware citizens. The reason it spread so quickly was due to the intense overpopulation of Europe in the Late Middle Ages. During this time, the population actually outnumbered the food supply and available jobs; therefore, Western Europe was left poor and hungry. Faced with economic depression, overpopulation, famine, and bad health, the immunity of Western Europe suffered greatly, leaving it wide open to contagion. Naturally, cities and places with high population densities faced the most risk of infection.

The term suggests a low-point in society with violence, disease, and war. Medieval Europe included many of these traits. Involving the Crusades, the Black Death, and violence involving religion. For these and the following reason, Medieval Europe was in a dark age.

Also in document D it states that concerning false money they had ordered that he who has been proved to have made it shall have his hand cut off.

The Black Plague arrived in Europe by sea in October 1347, when 12 Genoese trading ships came to the port. The people in the town Sicilian of the Messina had been scared of the ships coming into the town, because they heard that the black plague was on the ships. So the town had thought they were equipped enough to contain the disease. Most of the men that were on the 12 trading ships were infected or dead from the Black Death. The black death started to spread around 1300, and lasted through the 1500s, it was spread by flees, on rats, also people would kill each other because they thought they might have the Black Plague.

The origin and transmission of the black death was all purely bad luck for those in Europe. It was first spread by the common black rat, Rattus Rattus, in the 1330’s. The rat itself could not spread the disease, but the fleas it carried did (Dobson). The plague is caused by a bacterium called Yersinia Pestis. It is spread by the bites of the fleas (“The Black Death”). Most of the time the plague stayed within the rat population, but when large numbers of rats were affected and die off, the fleas

When you hear "dark ages" what is the first thing that appears in your mind? well for me i consider something frightening and dark and mean. Well the "medieval times" is the complete inverse. There was very little stuff that left the medieval times yet the majority of the individuals were upbeat and grins and exchanging and purchasing products!!! so when you think about the medieval times you ought to think about all that i simply portrayed. I don't imagine that the dark ages is a decent name to call the medieval times.
