In the novel Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, the main character experiences many ups and downs while on his journey to inner peace. First, he decides to live his life as a Samana. Herman Hesse writes about what it takes to obtain inner peace through his character Siddhartha.

Many books have great stories to tell. A lot have a deep message to convey. Siddhartha however, is a unique book. Though simple in its style, it is deep in meaning. One can take in its plot and get out of it a good story. On the other hand one can read deeper into it and try to find meaning from the story. Hermann Hesse somehow manages to tell something to the reader that is much deeper than the words he writes on the page. Perhaps it is the words he chooses that helps readers relate to Siddhartha. Maybe it’s the dreamlike feeling one gets after reading the book, partially due to how time is not linear in it. Whole years pass without notice, then just a day or two are focused on. This shows how Hesse is less
They bought land when it was cheap and were able to get Visa’s for several architects from India to design each temple in the likeness of the ones located in India, much smaller scale of course. The attention to detail was impressive as no two are alike. The colors inside each temple and the adornments of the gods and goddesses were stunning. Hindus typically come and pray for something that is going on in their lives. People would touch as they walked around each temple numerous times. Many brought food and flowers for offerings. One temple had six gallons of milk in front of it. The Goddess of knowledge was my favorite. Students like to come to her during

The Shiva ritual will last seven days for the mourners, during which time they are without shoes, and will sit on low stools, or the floor. They will not shave, go to work, bathe, have sex, eat meat, and will remain in the original clothes they tore in the first phase at the time of death. At the end of these seven days, the mourners begin a 30 day period, known as shloshim, in which they will not attend social gatherings. If they are mourning a parent’s death, traditionally, shloshim is extended and will last the length of one year (Rich, 1996).

The temple has several of the various Hindu deities that I saw, though Ganesha is their main focal point of at the temple. The temple was painted the to match the climate of Utah. “Granite Goddesses Sri Lakshmi and Sri Saraswathi adorn the entrance of the main sanctum giving special importance to wealth and learning, the main quests of Hindu immigrants to USA”(Skantharajah 33). The addition of a parking lot is probably unusual nowadays for a Hindu temple. There is a cultural center directly attached to the Sri Ganesha temple. Removing shoes is not required to enter the center, only for the main temple as I learned.
The etherial ambiance of the Vermont Gurudwara is really welcoming. The white tomb is a distinct part of the signature architecture that sets all gurudwaras apart from the other buildings around it. The temple represents the interests of the Sikh community. People visit the gurudwara to pray to the holy book of the sikhs called Gurugranth Sahib. Located at, 1966 N Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, the sikh temple of Vermont not only caters to the religious needs of the Sikh people but also serves as a counseling hub where people seek advice on legal issues like immigration and visa issues. The prayers offered at the gurudwara make the sikhs feel united as a community and helps them feel connected to their Waheguru (The Almighty). Followed by the prayer is the Langar, a term that is used to describe the community service to serve free food by the sikhs. No matter which religion a person belongs to, he can savor the food served at the Gurudwara for no charge.
