Call Of The Wild: Comparison Of Book And Movie

As you probably know, many successful books have been turned into movies. Jack London’s book, Call of the Wild was not discluded from this as there are many different movies based on the book. Recently, our class watched one of these movies, and we noticed there were some similarities as well as some definite differences. All movies based on books have differences from their counterparts. The main reason for this is that we simply can't fit in all the details from these books in under two hours. Another cause for this is the need to entertain people. People will get bored in a theatre if they sit through every single detail in a movie. One of these parts would be Curly’s death. In the movie the director chose to eliminate Curly’s character all together. This is most likely because she is not necessary to the plot and this saves some time. What's another difference? Carlie's existence as a whole. Not once was Charlie mentioned in the book. He is primarily part of the movie because they needed him to help keep the plot smooth and consistent.
Although this is only one difference, it seems to be an extremely important one. The book is centered around Buck. The movie, however, switches between Buck and John Thornton. You may be wondering why. The most likely reason for this is confusion. It is easier to insert a primary character at the beginning and to understand the plot from then on than it is to understand a random one sprouting out randomly. Another cause for this may be lack of spoken words. Note that in the movie, almost all words are from the narrative of John.
Even with all these changes, you can still see the connection between the book and the movie. The plot ends the same way and begins the same way. It includes primary events and portrays them well. I can conclude that I enjoyed both and would recommend these two paired together. There is, of course, a definite line between the way the two are shown. This is not something to focus on.
