The purpose of this report is to become familiar with research tools, to introduce a framework for secondary industry research and gain to practical experience in creating an executive summary. This research paper looks at a broad set of indicators on the Canadian new vehicle industries. The Canadian automotive industry produces light duty vehicles — cars, vans, pickup trucks; heavy duty vehicles—trucks, transit buses, school buses, military vehicles; and a wide range of parts, components, and systems used in vehicles of this nature. To complement its manufacturing activities, the industry boasts a well-developed vehicle dealer network, plus an aftermarket organization which has grown into a world-class distribution system and service provider (Canadian automotive industry, 2014). Canada accounts for a small amount of 4.6% of the Americas new cars market value (New Cars in Canada, 2016). Throughout the project I became more aware of how much the industry is worth. The worlds automotive industry accounts for around $1 trillion in annual sales. (Canada’s Auto and Auto Parts Industry Industrial Outlook, 2006). However, in 2015 the Canadian new cars market had total revenues of $15.0 billion. The market is expected to grow substantially by 18% in 2020 (New Cars in Canada, 2016).

Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited (CTC) is primarily a canadian retailer, focusing on automotive and general merchandise. Founded in 1922, the company has been around for almost a century, building strong brand recognition in Canada. Initially starting as a car parts retailer they have expanded rapidly into other areas, mainly general merchandise retail. They have other secondary divisions being; Partsource Automotive stores (strictly automotive parts), Financial Services, Mark’s Work Wearhouse (clothing retailer), FGL Sports Ltd. Business Intelligence (BI) is the consolidation and analysis of internal data and / or external data for the purpose of effective decision-making. At the core of all BI initiatives is a data warehouse to hold the data and analytics software. The data warehouse stores data from operational systems in the organization and restructures it to enable queries and models to extract decision support reports.

In 1992, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company decided to reconsider the offer from Sears to sell Goodyear's Eagle brand tires. The reasons that Goodyear was contemplating this offer was that Sears was replacing worn out Goodyear tires at a large amount every year. The tires were not being replaced with Goodyear tires because the customers at Sears wanted to replace their tires with the best possible tires that Sears offered, and the Goodyear tires were not in the offering. The company's major options in this decision were whether to sell only the Eagle brand tires or all of the Goodyear tire brands.

The key components of data warehousing is the ability to access data of the operational systems, data staging area, data presentation area, and data access tools (HIMSS, 2009). The goal of the data warehouse platform is to improve the decision-making for clinical, financial, and operational purposes.

Lima was one of Treadway’s best plants in terms of productivity and quality control because it updated its equipment and utilized new technology. However, currently, Lima undergoes dramatic changes: job dissatisfaction and high turnover at the foreman level. Moreover, misfortunes never come singly. The entire manufacturer industry is facing some huge challenges including drastic increase in raw material costs and fierce global competition. The Treadway Tire Company is facing a problem with crude oil price increasing by nearly four times over a four-year period, as well as increasing raw material costs which represent about 55% of the cost to produce a tire. The company is also feeling the pressure of an increased global presence with more intense competition than in the past.
