Chapter 31, Problem 1RQ
What is the procedure for grinding valves?
Expert Solution & Answer
To determine
Write the procedure for grinding valves.
Explanation of Solution
The procedure for grinding valves is as follows:
- A valve stem is first lightly ground and chamfered to confirm that the valve will sit in the holder.
- The valve face is then ground to the appropriate angle with a valve grinder.
- The valve seat is ground in the head.
- Check and correct the heights of the valve spring installed and valve stem.
- Once complete cleaning is done, the cylinder head is attached to the new valve stem seals that are installed.
