Summary Introduction
The size and shape of microorganisms are immediately revealed upon examination using a microscope. Among Archaea and Bacteria, several different morphologies are found. Archaeal and bacterial cells vary in size ranging from 0.2 µm to >700 µm in diameter. In general, the size of rod-shaped cells ranges from 0.5 – 4 µm in width and <15 µm in length.
