Question
Chapter 24, Problem 1O
Summary Introduction
To describe: The changes in atmospheric pressure, air temperature, and air density with increasing altitude.
Introduction: Altitude is defined as a measurement of distance of an object above sea or land surface.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
Atmospheric pressure is defined as the pressure exerted by the atmosphere of the Earth at any given point. Atmospheric pressure differs in relation to altitude, air humidity, and temperature. The atmospheric pressure decreases with increasing altitude. This is because both the density of the air and height of the overlying air column decrease. The air temperature and air density also decrease with increasing altitude.
