To review:
Whether one should get tested for BRCA1 and BRCA2 as a blood test is available easily.
Introduction:
Breast cancer refers to the disease of cancer, which primarily affects the breasts of the individual, mostly females. This cancer can be genetic and BRCA genes are breast cancer genes. They are called so because mutations in these genes can cause breast cancers in both females and males. They can be passed down to the child from either parent.
Explanation of Solution
There are genetic tests available to find out if the BRCA gene in an individual is mutated or not, but genetic testing is recommended to those people with high risks of developing breast cancer. For example, if a person has a family history of breast cancer, ovarian cancer or a family member with a mutated BRCA gene.
Due to the cost and time consumption, this test is not recommended to every individual who is experiencing breast cancer. This test is not recommended otherwise because there are only slight chances that a family member is a carrier of this gene mutation. Moreover, emotionally such tests impact severely and may hamper the psychosocial life of the individual and their family members.
Thus, it can be concluded that genetic tests are expensive and impact the person emotionally. They are only recommended to people who have a family history of breast cancer.

No surviving relatives are known, so their estate have been willed to chasrity. Later, a man claims that he is their child. Although friends of the couple knew that they had a son, no record of this can be found. Medical records show that the dead man was A Rh’, his wife was B Rh- and the claimant’s blood tests as O Rh’. Does it appear that his claim is valid? Justify your conclusion. A student in genetics is B’. She reports that her father is B- and her mother is O’. Explain.arrow_forwardWhen a mother is Rh-, there is a chance the baby may have hemolytic disease of Newborns. Rh+ mothers do not have this issue. Why? Rh- moms do not have the Rh antigen in their body. A Rh- mom can have a Rh+ baby depending on the male sperm. During pregnancy, Rh- mom can be exposed to her baby's Rh antigen. Let's look at figure a) the first pregnancy. The Rh- mom is pregnant with a Rh+ baby. The baby exposes the mom to Rh antigen during pregnancy. This first baby is delivered and is ok. Figure (b) between pregnancies, the mother is exposed to the foreign antigen Rh and she makes antibodies against Rh. She now has anti-D (anti-Rh) in her body. Figure (c) her second pregnancy with a Rh+ baby. On the next pregnancy that the mom has with a baby. The mom has the anti-D (anti-Rh) antibody in her system. The antibody will attack the baby's RBCS with the Rh antigen on it. When the baby's RBC's are attacked the RBC will hemolyse (hemo=RBC; Lysis=cut). This will result in severe anemia. - A tragic car accident occurred at the intersection of Speer Blvd. and 15th St. near Metro State University and UCD during the Monday morning rush hour. Mary Metro, a young pregnant student, was rushed to the emergency room at Denver Health Medical Center after being hit by an RTD bus while crossing the intersection. She would require several units of transfused blood. While in the emergency room, her blood was typed as AB negative, a very rare type. The hospital had no AB negative in the blood bank. Calls were made to other blood banks in Denver and no AB negative blood was immediately available. Several B positive, O positive and O negative units of blood were located at the Red Cross in Lakewood. While in the emergency room Mary Metro had an emergency C-section to deliver her baby, Brandon. At delivery Baby Brandon was in great distress with some type of autoimmune reaction and required a total blood transfusion. His blood was typed as A positive by the lab technician. An Rh-negative female can usually carry an Rh-positive fetus to term without difficulty. However, if she has a second Rh-positive fetus, her body may launch an immune attack that causes hemolytic disease of the newborn.
