Encompassed in this portfolio for the English 125 course are revisions of Project #1, “What Do They Have to Say?”, and Project #3, the research paper. The central reasoning for my decision to revise these essays is due to an interest I hold in their topics. These topics include the hidden dangers of the food industry, such as the mistreatment of animals, as well as the epidemic of childhood obesity in the United States of America. These topics are similar in that they both revolve around food as well as an injustice in the world. When reading through these two essays, I noticed a great deal of structural errors as well as a few grammatical errors that I had not noticed prior. When reading through Project #1, I noticed that I had made a few …show more content…
Some of these errors included repetitive transitions, sentence fragments and general grammar and punctuation errors. After these errors were fixed, I thoroughly read through both of the essays in order to develop a full understanding of what else I need to improve. Following these readings, I fixed any further grammatical errors I may have missed the first time when I revised these essays earlier in the semester. Following this revision, I expanded on a few paragraphs where I felt as though my ideas were not explained well-enough. I expanded a fair amount on my paragraphs in Project #3 as I believe that I had left some ideas unexplained. One of these ideas include how children are the ones who will one day help to shape the future. I also improved on some further transitions that I found could use some refinement. After improving on these transitions, I simplified any overly-complex sentences I may have had in my essays. Throughout the semester, I have had a problem with writing overly-complex sentences. The process of revision has helped in clarifying this aspect of writing for me as well as aspects relating to transitions and sentence fragments. Through the clarification of these aspects, I believe I have grown as a
In English 950/1101-350 one will join in collaborative exercises with their classmates and guided research. Students will use the Norton Field Guide and adventure their ways through CNM’s Library Database’s. Students will receive, ancillary readings, grammar handouts, and model essays from past students. While students will spend most of their time in a classroom, they will also have a chance to go to a computer lab and do research for their essays. The nutritional dietary consumption of carbohydrates is between 55-75% for the vast majority of the global population as their main source of food intake and energy. And the general populous continues to be misinformed by government agencies regarding what a normal, healthy diet, should be, as well as what a balanced diet looks like. Eating a low-carb high-fat, or ketogenic, diet of high fat, adequate protein and low carbohydrates can provide many health benefits as compared to the alternative of an unhealthy diet. Research suggests that a ketogenic diet builds a healthier body than
After reviewing the discussion of genre in Chapter 8 of Film: From Watching to Seeing, demonstrate your understanding of one selected genre using a feature-length film.
This week, the most difficult part of the reading assignment was section 1.7 Transformations. While the beginning was easy enough for me to follow I soon started to become bogged down with the number of types. I counted seven definitions in the chapter, all rather long, that included vertical shifts, horizontal shifts, reflections, vertical scalings, horizontal scalings and transformations. I read the entire section at least five times and the examples, especially towards the end of the section, a few times more before understanding it well enough to at-tempt the exercises. The examples were really good and had an artistic quality about them which I found interesting. Thinking back on the reading it was the tables themselves that con-fused me and which I needed to follow close, and with greater thought, to really understand. Even though there’re meant to further comprehension, which after careful following they do, it took me a few read overs. Sometimes getting lost in all the x, (x,f(x)), f(x), g(x) = f(2x), etc.. overwhelmed me and I had to move forward and come back to it later. I will give credit as the section was well explained well by the authors.
In English 1102 students will learn many different techniques throughout the course to understand and compose an analysis on an array of topics. After the course is over it is up to the students to apply what they have learned to everyday life. Many students throughout this course have questioned why they have to learn this material and that it will not even help them in the real world, but they are wrong. Each and everyday people should look at the deeper meaning and analyze situations very carefully or else one may find themselves being deceived. Being able to analyze is a very important skill no matter what career choice you choose. In this course the material assigned also had many life lessons in them. A great example of a reading assignment
I am writing to express my sincere appreciation and to thank you for supporting H.R. 6261.
Imagine being in the Bart train, going to a party with some of your friends, but while in route, you are shot by the Bart police for a crime you did not commit. This is the story of a young man named Oscar Grant. On New Years Eve of 2009, he was fatally shot. . Police brutality is the use of excessive force, physically or verbally, by a police officer. In one year, how many incidents of police brutality or misconduct do you think have occurred? In the U.S. alone, statistics show that over 2,500 incidents have occurred. Because of the constant stories of severe police brutality, it is clear that the efforts to stop this are not effective.
In the past two months i fell like i have accomplished a great deal. As i focus on it more i realize i have become a better reader. I did this by concentrating on my readings and take my time to read them. With the help of my professor and classmates i began to analyze what i read.
In English 111 I have struggled with many assignments over the course of the semester, picking myself up over time from countless mistakes on papers, to procrastinating on basic class work assignments. Before Fall semester, I had no idea what college would be like, or how hard it could be. Things were not the same as high school; it was different to a point where college seemed a lot harder than it was supposed to be. In English 111, I got the chance to meet new students and different professors that have helped guide me to success throughout the semester.
Unfortunately, this company has violated the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 due to the fact that they advised the applicant that they could not make the necessary adjustments to accommodate her needs. The American with Disabilities Act of 1990 does require that companies make necessary adjustments to accommodate the needs of qualified applicants. The key words to me are qualified applicants. They did use the words undue hardship in their response for denial but they would have to prove that modifying 2 elevators is actually a hardship to their company. Now, if they can prove that there may be no violation but the proof of burden is on them. Also, they may also say that the applicant is
1. Describe the function of the following pieces of safety equipment and how each might be used: (10 points)
I learned many new things from English 1102 class. It was not much fun but I learned some interesting things. For my research, I needed a topic that interests me. I first started to search topics from the chemistry field. I could not find any interesting topics then I came across an article that talks about how robots will take our jobs and every one would be jobless. After reading that article, I was really convinced that robots were bad for human society and people should be focusing on improving other fields such as medicine than wasting time and money in inventing a robot, which is one type of luxury and that, will take our jobs. So I chose this topic for my research. For further discussions, I started searching for some more article about robots not good for human society and I found that there was not much about the negative impact of robots in human society other than taking human jobs. So I was stuck but then I found an article that supports the robots. It was a good article and it explains how robots are useful in human society. The Article says that robots will create new jobs and benefit employers, government and disable people. I also found in one article saying that if robots will do our jobs humans can focus on bigger problems like finding cures for diseases, finding solution to prevent natural disasters and many more. Therefore, I decided to support the robot’s positive impact rather than supporting
Three substantial changes I made to my essay. I improved the introduction, provided more examples of college writing and my personal experiences in my body paragraphs and fixed the conclusion. In paragraph one, is where I made my first change the introduction was too short and needed more detail on what I was going to discuss in the essay so it could appeal more to readers and they can understand what I was trying to get across. Instead of only just saying my definition of college writing, in my change I talked and went into detail about my main points. The next change to my essay was the providing more examples in the body paragraphs. In paragraph three, I only provided one example of college writing. In the change of my essay, I’ve decided
