1 Background Study Before this class, I had never heard the term Canon related to the Bible. I learned while reading chapter 4 , in a survey of the New Testament , that the canon meaning (Standard) is the book accepted by the church, which governs the Christian standards and belief in which to live. (Gundry 2012) For me, this concept is new. I just always assumed that the Bible was put together by the writers, with God's guidance and either found or passed down generation after generation. I have always known that scholars changed the text language. I never really thought about how words could get lost or translated wrong. I really have always just depended on the Lord to talk to me through his words and help me get the correct meaning out of it. Gundry writes: “At first, Christians did not have any of the books contained in the New Testament. They depended, therefore, on the Old Testament, on oral tradition about Jesus' words and deeds, and on messages from God spoken by Christian prophets” (Gundry 2012 pg63). This knowledge can make one think about how accurate each translation is, if the one you are using is missing anything, or when things were passed on did, they do as we do today and change from person to person? The little bit we have read so far in this class just reminds me how important it is to research anything you hear or read when it comes to the Lords words and be careful what translation you read, cross-referencing and most importantly, praying and asking for guidance from the Lord. I gave my life to the Lord in my early twenties though I started talking to him as a child growing up believing in him, not sure where I had met him or how I knew the Lord I just did. I was taught in church in my twenties that the New Testament was about Jesus and his time here and what he did for us. On January 1, 2022, I rededicated my life to the Lord. Since then, I have made it my goal to learn and get closer to the Lord. I would have to say that my view of the New Testament is a mix of the Holy Spirits guideress, church, Christian shows I watch on TV and the
2 research I do to learn more. The whole Bible is a love letter to us from the Lord, guiding and outlining how he wants us to live. The New Testament is the accounts of Jesus and the Lords' new covenant to us. As Gundry states:” The New Testament “means” New Covenant” and contrasts with the Old Testament or “Old Covenant” (Gundry 2012 pg12). I would say that my view of the New Testament, probably the whole Bible, is directly from the Lord. I was in a very dark place. He spoke to me, guided me to read his words. I started reading the New Testament, and he answered questions I had asked, threw those words in the Bible. With that I would say that my first thought that he was guiding the making of the Bible is right. References Gundry, R.H. (2012).   A survey of the New Testament   (5 th   ed.). Zondervan
