Aichatou Rene Joly 2/1/23 Question 1 Bruce is a BCBA and was working as a behavioral programmer. However, while doing his work, he always played music and decided to be playing the music for an hour. Later he asked the clients how they received the music. However, his behavioral colleagues could have been more impressed with his idea of playing music and asking clients how they felt. The ethical dilemma that Bruce is facing in this situation is that He was sure that the clients were feeling well with the music and even the music helped them relieve their life stresses. However, his behavioral analysis profession does not require him to do so since playing music was separate from his job description when being hired to work in this organization. According to the BCBA code of conduct, behavioral analyses are supposed to be practiced within the defined roles (BACB, 2022). Bruce found it okay to play music, but the code of ethics of his profession denies him this freedom. Question 2 Pris is a BCBA professional working with Medicaid clients. However, in her free time, she liked scrapbooks. She went ahead to request the clients she helped to write a few comments in her scrapbook. The ethical dilemma in this situation is that asking clients to write comments gave them a chance to write their appreciation message for the help they got from her. Most clients wrote appreciation messages in her scrapbook willingly and were happy to get the chance to thank you for the help. However, according to the BCBA code of conduct, behavioral analyst professionals are supposed to keep clients' information confidential. It is against the BCBA code of ethics for Pris to expose the clients who got her help (BACB, 2022). She exposed the names
of the clients who got help in her scrapbook and allowed everyone to read the book. When helping someone, it is ethical to keep the information confidential. Question 3 In this situation, Joel found himself in an ethical dilemma because he is a professional BCBA and previously worked as a massage therapist. Joel felt obligated to design an informal shoulder rub program for the client that displayed unusual behaviors because he understood what could help the client. However, the dilemma he faced was that according to the BCBA code of ethics, professionals need to design programs that are evidenced based and backed by scientific evidence (BACB, 2022). For Joel to design an informal program believing it would help the client display unusual behaviors unprofessional. Joel violated the BCBA code of ethics, which requires him to act professionally. As Joel’s supervisor, I would advise him to abandon that informal program. Question 4 The ethical dilemma that exists in this situation is that Dr. John has all the knowledge in the matters of community programs. However, he is not a member of the city commissions; hence, the commission's views, whether good or bad, cannot be considered. Dr. John is supposed to act according to his job description. In this commission, he does not have any duty; hence, he gives his opinion on research, which may not be considered. Behavioral analysis could be an effective research approach, but the best way he could do it is to use a commission member to suggest it. According to the BCBA code of conduct, Dr. John needs to act within his scope (BACB, 2022). He should stick to the rules of the profession.
Question 5 In the given situation, Sandy finds herself in an ethical dilemma on whether to question the work of her fellow professionals. According to the assessment of her client Charlie, she sees him verbally and seems to have good self-help and social skills. Thus, according to her, Charlie was not supposed to be subjected to basic training classes but to start straight in the sheltered workshop. She doubts Charlie’s results given by the administrators of the facility. She is in dilemma whether to question, disregard or approve these results. BCBA code of conduct requires BCBA professionals to uphold the respect of other fellow professionals (BACB, 2022). Questioning the results would be one of disrespecting her colleagues.
