1. Which assignment did you find most interesting, affected you most, how, and why? The “OMAHA! OMAHA!” assignment affected me the most. I say this because in doing this assignment from a philosophical and a business perspective, I was able to see how ethics can be applied differently depending on the context. This is why I thought the chapter context on contextual ethics was so accurate. I think our backgrounds and biases affect how we view different situations, so people from different backgrounds could argue utilitarianism for the same situation using two opposing arguments. 2. Do you see any value in Philosophy? Has your position or understanding changed since Assignment #3? Yes! Philosophy has continued to challenge me in my beliefs. I cannot simply let a thought cross my mind without asking it why it is structured the way it is anymore. 3. Do you think you will you use this new knowledge going forward, or will you just dismiss it, take your 3 credits, and move on? If so, how might you apply these lessons going forward? Absolutely. I now have a much deeper understanding of shareholders and stakeholders, their interests, and why it is important to ethically defend them both. I think that these ideas will continue through whatever professional position I am in. 4. Rank the ethical theories once again. Have they changed since completing Assignment #4? 1. Ethic of Care 2. Virtue Ethics 3. Utilitarianism 4. Deontology I have changed my rankings because I now know more about why it is important to defend those who cannot defend themselves (including the environment), and of how rules can be twisted to commit heinous acts against those who cannot defend themselves (especially the environment). 5. I shared examples of where I find Truth; inter-dependency often demonstrated within Music, Art, Mathematics, etc. Where do you find it, if at all? The Bible, and the voice of my God who is in all things. Truth is everywhere if you are willing to listen to it. “The truth will set you free, but not until it’s done with you first.” 6. Please provide any additional thoughts that you wish to share. Thank you for a great year Dr. House. Your classes have kept me from becoming too crystalized in my thinking on my journey through some hard science courses. Instead, I was able to foster creativity in the midst of rigidity. Thank you.
