ARCE 476 Field Trip #1 Cal Poly Vista Grande Dining Facility November 7, 2023 Introduction: The Vista Grande Dining Facility incorporates many of the HVAC Systems being discussed in our lectures, including VAV Air Handling Systems and Kitchen Exhaust Systems. Chilled water and heating hot water are provided to the building for the HVAC systems. The slides for this presentation and the drawings for HVAC & Structural systems are posted on Canvas for your reference. Assignment: 1) Sheet M1.03 if the HVAC plans typically shows one VAV box serving three offices at most. What benefit might there be a VAV box served more than three offices? What are the advantages if a VAV box were provided for each office? 2) The equipment schedule M0.03 and plans indicate electrical rooms and data rooms are served by VAV boxes without reheat coils, as well as split-system air conditioning units. Why is this air- conditioning strategy employed here? 3) What is the primary difference between the Air Handling Units and Make-Up Air Units serving the building? From the equipment schedules on M0.02 determine the total tons of cooling required by the AHU’s and MUA’s? 4) What are some strategies to prevent kitchen exhaust from recirculating into the AHU outside air intakes? (2 points) 5) KX-5 serves the main Kitchen/Prep Hood? From the HVAC and/or Color HVAC Revit plan identify the exhaust duct size (Gold) connecting to the fan. What is the velocity in this duct based on the fan schedule, does it seem high? 6) Comparing the total Kitchen Exhaust Quantities (CFM-KX fans) with the Make-Up Air Unit capacities (CFM-MAU’s), which is greater and is the difference significant? On Sheet M6.01 there is a diagram and Sequence of Operation that describe how building pressure is maintained. What are the two conditions that account for the differences between these CFM-KX and CFM-MAU’s?
