I am pursuing my EC-6th grade, in all core content areas. I will be targeting a 1st grade
lesson plan. I will include a lesson plan for social studies and ELAR. Students will begin to learn the
importance of family and community beliefs, language, and traditions. In ELAR, students will learn
how to do research and present it.
2.
The two texts that I will include in this lesson are One Classroom, Many Cultures by Elizabeth
Massie. This book talks about students who have different cultures, languages, and traditions. The
second book I chose is Islandborn by Junot Díaz. With these two stories, students will get to learn
about different cultures, traditions, and languages. Students will then get to do research with the help
of their parents about their beliefs, language, and traditions.

After a brief discussion with their neighbors, students determine that the pictures are of families. The
