In The Crucible, Arthur miller writes, “No one was naked! You mistake yourself, uncle.”(Miller 144) In other words it shows that Abigail is lying about the girl who was naked and dancing with them at night in the middle of the woods. She told Paris that there was no girl dancing in the woods because she knows that they will all get in a lot of trouble so she start lying. This relate to my topic because it is about lying, and how the play started by how a lie drag another lie which lead to people
Abigail is to blame for most of the deaths in the crucible because of her lying. In the play the crucible, there is a young girl who sleeps with a farmer named John Proctor. This man now knows he has committed a sin, and he can hardly live with himself he feels as if he is a tormented man. Throughout the play the young girl tries to rid Proctor's wife so she can have him all to herself. Before the play actually starts, Abigail and the other girls were actually practicing witchcraft and got caught
Proctor says to her, "You're coming to the court with me, Mary. You will tell it in the court." (Miller 80). This is to prove that he is not in volved in witchcraft. He does not want his name to even be associated with the thought. He there fore makes Mary testify to the court about her doll and therefore clears the accusation that he was doing what we consider voo-doo. Furthermore, at the end of the play Proctor
save his reputation in the town. By doing so, it causes innocent people to get accused of things that they didn't do, like when he swears that he didn't see anyone naked in the woods, but before, he swore he did. He also stuck up for the girls in court when they were being accused of faking being bewitched because if they were actually faking it, then Abigail and Betty, his daughter and niece, would be liars which would make him look bad, saying that he raised them. By only caring about what people
crimes of witchcraft, is easily persuaded by statements made by Abigail, Mary Warren, John Proctor, and others. He states, "The pure in heart need no lawyers" (Miller 212). This fallacy, specifically non-sequitur, is an example of his power as such a corrupt figure in the courtroom. Danforth is certainly not pure at heart since his ideas and claims are based on what others have said and not his personal information. In a court of law, a convicted person is considered innocent until proven guilty. Except
was condemned by the court. John Proctor was just a normal farmer that went to church like most people in Salem and obeyed the laws like everyone else but as we got later in the book he started to act more suspicious on what he was doing. During that time his house got checked for any signs of witchcraft items like poppets because in Salem witchcraft was getting really suspicious and when looking in his house they found evidence and they took away Elizebeth his wife to court and she had got commended
property...and there is none but Putnam with the coin to buy so great a piece” and a witness that seen Putnam thanking his daughter for her service in helping with Jacobs' arrest( Miller 89). This particular scene shows Miller's annoyance of how the court is corrupted in its duty of justice through him having Giles give evidence after evidence, only for Miller to show his frustration through Giles as Danforth sided with Putnam's
characters battled on to maintain their reputation as reputable their acts caused them to affect a various amount of others along the way. However, some characters that I believe really appraised to preserve their reputation were John Proctor, Mary Warren, and Abigail Williams. With that being said, John Proctor is concerned with his reputation as he lies about committing adultery to not appear as a bad person. Therefore, by saving his reputation it causes him to turn into a dishonest person. John
Abigail Williams was ultimately the cause of John Proctor's death. She was a sneaky girl who wanted to get rid of John's wife, Elizabeth. The acts that Abigail committed throughout the play all were leading up to John's death, even though that is not what she intended to happen. Abigail is most responsible for the witchcraft in the drive. She is the person you drives all the other girls to cry witchcraft. She lacks a conscience which makes her an untrustworthy person in the town. She goes through
Abigail did indirectly murder people, which is a horrible transgression even when unaccompanied by the fact that she was in a perfect mental condition while she was doing all of this. Abigail should be tried and punished because she was indeed in a normally functioning mental state. Geoffrey Miller points out a few things that could result from a mental disorder stemming from emotional instability “Low emotional stability predicts depression, anxiety, bipolar, borderline, and histrionic disorders”
