War and The Great Depression. Even during these devastating times, baseball has been incredibly prevalent and loved throughout the nation. The poem “Casey at the Bat” highlights this “Americanness” associated with baseball. It details what aspects of baseball are common throughout American culture and identity and comments on other aspects through Casey and his admiring fans. It shows the community and unity of Americans, their strong spirit of competition, and their resilience. Firstly, we can see
Written by Ernest Lawrence Thayer in 1887, Casey at Bat is a narrative American poem and story, telling of a baseball’s game’s final half-inning between the home team Mudville, and another team. This morning on the way to church, I listened to Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 the 70s on KOOL 98.3, WTKU-FM Petersburg, NJ. This was an encore of a show that was aired in 1979. I actually listened on WBSS 1490 AM, Pleasantville, NJ so that I was able to hear the songs in the same fidelity that I heard them when I was a kid. On the way to church I heard Rock n Roll Fantasy by Bad Company, and then Chuck E's In Love by Rickie Lee Jones. After church, I heard Love You Inside Out by the Bee Gees

Butchart (2010) reported that racism and segregation between European American and African American students attributed to unequal education. Before and after the Emancipation, many African Americans attempted to set up schools for students, but violent assaults occurred that
