Throughout the Mission trip process at YouthWorks older children have the opportunity to guide younger children at a children's day camp. In the summer of 2012 I was given the privilege to travel to West Virginia and work in one of the kids camps. It was stationed in a rougher area and housed children of all races, denominations, and wealth but all had a common need. Many of the kids sought out support and love. The staff had warned us that we needed to show the children support without becoming
Of the many service experiences I experienced this past year, the most impactful was a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. This past summer, I participated this mission trip hosted by BLUE Missions. BLUE Missions focuses on building aqueducts for water access and sanitation projects to villages in the Dominican Republic. I, alongside other students, left Miami August 9, 2016 and returned on August 17, 2016. For those 8 days, the group provided water to a village (or “campo”) named Baúl, which
For this mission trip I will be traveling to Puerto Nuevo, Mexico with nine other people to help fill a small orphanage with the necessary supplies they will need. While doing this we want to spread the Word of God to the children and workers of the orphanage. We will be focusing on those are eighteen and younger, and will be making sure we give them an abundance of supplies, so the orphanage can use the supplies we give them for years. Once we fully supply the orphanage, we will be there for the
little people with actual homes; however, I saw smiles, laughter, and happiness among the people. I’ve traveled a lot throughout my life, but this trip gave traveling meaning. Experiencing their culture and customs gave me a broader perspective on other lifestyles and what they endure. When I was thirteen, my mom, brother, and I decided to go on a mission trip to Haiti. We took a flight over there, through Miami. I got off the plane into a hot, crowded jungle of people in the airport. Every seat was
making meals for families--all projects promoting my life goal of helping make communities better and serving others, especially the less fortunate. I have been able to go on several mission trips with members of my church volunteering their efforts in completing helpful community projects where needed. These trips changed my life and made me a better person. As a wide-eyed seventh grader, thirty of my peers and I gathered together and went to Akron, Ohio, to help the immigrants and people who were
and far. On the contrary, it is a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to the common good; that is to say to the good of all and of each individual, because we are all really responsible for all." I would really love to go on this mission trip because I have a deep love for the Catholic social teaching of solidarity and I find it immensely important. Being able to embrace people from other cultures and heritages would be an eye opening experience that would help us all grow in community
through mission trips with the First Baptist of Boerne. I was introduced to this church and able to go on these amazing opportunities as a result of having met Glynna Reser a RDH my senior
During the summer of 2016 I attended a mission trip to Lynn Massachusetts. The city of Lynn welcomes refugees and give them a place to stay that helps them establish a good foundation. After the refugees have a good foundation they will disperse around the country to start a better life. Little did I know that during that week my life would be changed. When we arrived they split us into groups and told us who we will be serving this week. The group that I was placed in would be attending a soup kitchen
Mission Trip Samoa Life on an Island is not all sunsets and ocean breezes; everyday life can be challenging and rough. Most of Samoa’s economy is based on agriculture and has a current population of 198,926 (“The World Fact Book: Samoa,” 2017). Samoa export of agricultural goods and commercial fishing provides limited job opportunities in other sectors. The commercial fisherman are starting bring back less loads due to over fishing. Samoa’s limited potable water is causing health problems and with
Thank you for supporting me on my summer mission trip with Yadah Performing Arts Ministry to Cape Coral, FL this summer. In our 10 day tour, we had 4 shows, 3 on Sunday, and 1 midweek. In our trip, not only did we perform for Spanish speaking Churches in Cape Coral, but we also had a “Faith Boot-Camp”, a service project, and sightseeing. In our tour, we took two days to grow in our faith, and together as a group. We did multiple group challenges, including the Human Pretzel, to stretch our
