Effect of Lactobacillus reuteri probiotic as an adjunct to non-surgical periodontal therapy on gingival crevicular fluid superoxide dismutase levels in diabetic patients with chronic periodontitis: A Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial A protocol of thesis submitted to the Department of Oral Medicine, Periodontology, Oral Diagnosis and Radiology, Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University, in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the Master’s Degree in Oral Medicine, Periodontology, and Oral
was attempted using lactobacillus cultures. A liter of milk was supplied and plain yoghurt was used as a starter culture as it contains the necessary bacteria to ferment lactose and produce lactic acid. The milk was added to a flask: then boiled, cooled and inoculated. The milk was incubated for a week and all the while the milk was tested for changes in pH, density, mass and physical changes. The values obtained were then used to determine the growth kinetics of Lactobacillus bulgaricus. INTRODUCTION
Abstract Dairy food staff such as soft cheese, cream cheese, raw milk, sour cream, yoghurt and probiotic yoghurt products can be a rich source of diverse lactic acid bacteria. The objective of this lab practical was to isolate lactic acid bacteria(LAB) form raw milk, establishment of pure cultures of LAB,identify LAB and phage recovery and enumeration of recoverd phage.Raw milk was chosen as a sample so as to have a more positive result. To identify bacteria Lab isolated from raw milk, biochemical, morphological
Fermentation is a natural process. Meaning that it has always been constantly happening whether we are aware or not. When it comes to fermented foods, it speaks on a fermentation process that has been manipulated for centuries by mankind. Humans have taken this pure process and used it as a way to preserve flavors, and create exciting new flavors. There are the common foods that many are aware of that undergo fermentation including bread, yogurt, wine, and beer. But the new trend in the fermentation
purchase non-refrigerated probiotics ("Do Probiotics Need to Be Refrigerated?" 1). Lactobacillus acidophilus can be found in some of these probiotics.(Terry 1). These are contained in shelf stabled, non-refrigerated probiotics such as Bartell drug brand, Rite-Aid, and Natrol acidophilus. Another non-refrigerated probiotic; Kyo Dophilius contains other beneficial bacterias such as Bifidobacterium infantis and Lactobacillus gasseri which helps boost the immune system (Wasserman 1). Some of the other reasons why lactobacillus plantarum 229v is used is that because it is a gram positive facultative aerob bacteria it can survive in low oxygen environment like inside the juice box or in the juice itself. Although lactobacillus plantarum cost are higher this certain strain of lactobacillus is specifically engineered to have more commercial benefits. Some benefits can also benefit the product itself. Like many other lactic acid bacteria lactobacillus plantarum229v releases lactic
EVALUATION OF EFFECT OF NON STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS ON GROWTH OF PROBIOTICS Nsaids might be our future antibiotics as they show antimicrobial properties… Nida Rizvi1, Ma’am Azra Riaz2 1, 2 Pharmacy department, faculty of pharmacology, University of Karachi. Abstract: Effect of various concentrations of NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) on growth of commercial probiotic preparations (A, B, C, and D) were observed by agar well diffusion assay. Zone of inhibition was recorded
- Key diffrents between prebiotics and probiotics : Prebiotics and probiotics are two types of bacteria which are present on all food products. These bacteria can help in dagestive system as they have the ability to keep it more healthy. These two types of bacteria have the same benefits for the health, as they can increase number of healthy bacteria in person's body, but they have some differants, too. For example, prebiotics are type of carbohydrates which have long chains of suger moleculs bonded
Background: There have been studies investigating the effect of probiotic yoghurt on blood lipids. However the results are conflicting. Also, there have been few studies involving probiotic cheese. Purpose: The goal of this trial was to compare the consumption effect of probiotic yoghurt with probiotic cheese on blood lipids. Methods: 180 subjects aged 18 – 65, with <6 mmol/l total cholesterol were participated in a 2-month trial. Subjects were assigned into three 60-person groups; probiotic cheese
Improve the health of skin – the skin is a large living organ that keeps changing every second. The health of a skin can be compromised by exposure to elements such as the sun, air or contact with destructive chemicals and other objects. Scientists have identified a bacterium that increases the amount of ceramide in the skin. Ceramide prevents skin drying, offers protection against the UV rays and hydrates the skin tissue by maintaining the supple feel. The barrier provided by the S. thermophilus
